Won't stay started

put number 1 cylinder at top dead center and drop in distributor so the rotor points to number 1 on cap. may have to try several times as gear moves when lowering dist.

Those are all really common symptoms of the alternator going bad on those cars. I would have it checked to make sure it's charging properly.

Make sure it's getting fuel. Try using some ether or starting fluid. If it rumbles to life but doesn't stay running then there's a problem with the fuel delivery system. i.e.... Fuel pump, clogged filter, pressure regulator.... If the ether doesn't change the results you are getting now then it's a fire or sensor problem. Ignition coil, relays, sensors not signaling, PCM... Clear the codes AFTER a repair was made & the light
stayed on ?

I would purchase an inexpensive $60.00 code reader &
use that.

If you start disconnecting batteries on every vehicle you
do or will own,then bad things happen.

The radio won't work,the car won't start,etc

If you have service manuals to learn your vehicles systems,
then you can eventually know what the results will be

Again,if you fixed nothing,then the light is going to stay on
or come back

I would suggest a full synthetic oil, next time & stay with 5W-30
That will be better on start up

I have no idea why it won't start after only changing the oil

I think that was just a coincidence

I just installed a new throttle body ,because the motor has
acted up for 7 months & unknown the battery was failing
as I was diagnosing some odd behaveour

I was using professional scan tool software & when that
went weird I saw the computer module & battery voltages
going down,key on,engine off. So strange things happen
with todays electronics. When your think your on your game
things go to the twylight zone

If it is a 3.8 engine change the crank sensor,they go bad on the 3.8 engines.

Could be the security system or the neutral safety switch.
