Safelock on 2006 Pontiac Torrent. Randomly prevents starting. Seems to reset after a day or so. Is there a way to disable

It is the passlock system not safelock An you can't just disable it . It is software program into the BCM - body control module an the PCM - powertrain control module .Simply disconnecting the wires from the ignition to the BCM will render your vehicle useless . If an when the security symbol light is on you need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . A GM dealer ,Chevy , Buick , Cadillac etc.... we know Pontiac is no longer around. Everything will work except the PCM will not let the fuel injectors work . Passlock?"¢ System The theft deterrent system has been incorporated into the body control module (BCM). The theft deterrent system is provided in order to prevent the vehicle operation if the correct key is not used in order to start the vehicle. The ignition key allows the lock cylinder to rotate. The cylinder rotation produces an analog voltage code in the Passlock?"¢ sensor. This voltage code is received by the BCM. The BCM compares the voltage code to the previously learned voltage code. If the codes match, a serial data message is sent from the BCM to the powertrain control module (PCM). The message enables the fuel injector operation. The design of the Passlock?"¢ system is to prevent vehicle theft by disabling the engine unless the ignition lock cylinder rotates properly by engaging the correct ignition key. The system is similar in concept to the Passkey system. However, the Passlock?"¢ system eliminates the need for any key mounted components. The components of the Passlock?"¢ system are as follows: ?€¢ The ignition lock cylinder

?€¢ The ignition switch

?€¢ The Passlock?"¢ sensor

?€¢ The BCM

?€¢ The security indicator

?€¢ The PCM

Why do my lights come on when they are in the off position when i run new ground wire to ground on headlamp?

You found the ground. Did they come on when you grounded it? or when you put the key in the ignition/start it? If they came right on, remove the wire. You'll have to trace the wires back to the fuse panel, Ohm meter helps. If the wires are good, your looking at replacing the fuse panel. If they come on with the key, this is kind of normal. Depends on the daylight. The body control over rides the switch and turns them on. DRL(day time running lights)

Why is my Passenger headlamp dim. No other lights affected on right side.

The passenger side is grounding threw the drivers side. When you pull the drivers side light the other looses it ground. It is actually grounded threw the bulb. The reason it is dim. It could be the plug. Find the ground and run a new one to the bulb from the body.

On the passenger side headlamp there are three wires. Blue, Red middle, and Pink, Which one is the ground?

The best way to find out is to use a multimeter or test lamp. Assuming you don't have a multimeter, you can easily make up a test lamp with a 12 volt bulb and two lengths of wire joined to the bulb connections. Connect one wire to the battery negative and turn the lights on in the car. Use the other end of the wire from the test bulb to check each of the connections on the car light. One will cause the test bulb to come on with high beam selected, and the other with low beam selected. The connection that does not cause the test bulb to turn on is the ground connection.

My hatch won't release from the remote or the door switch. No solenoid sound at the hatch. How do I get it to open if it's not a bad fuse?

There are actually three relays , an there are controlled by the BCM - body control module ! When a door lock switch is activated in the lock or unlock position the BCM will receive a voltage signal on either the door lock switch lock or unlock signal circuits. The BCM, upon receipt of a lock switch lock or unlock signal, will switch the appropriate lock relay control circuits to battery positive voltage. This will energize the appropriate lock or unlock relays. The relay will supply voltage to the door lock actuator lock or unlock control circuits to one side of the lock actuator. Since the opposing side of the lock actuators are connected to ground through the other lock actuator control circuit and the normally closed contacts of the lock or unlock relay, the doors and liftgate will then lock or unlock appropriately. Three relays are used to operate the locks. DRV DR UNLCK relay, PASS DR UNLOCK and DR LCK relay. This is done to isolate the driver door lock actuator so it can be unlocked by itself using the keyless entry transmitter. Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation The liftgate can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel. Battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the liftgate actuator when a release input is received through the key fob, or the instrument panel switch. Door/Lift gate Latch Assembly
  1. Install a 20-A fused jumper wire between the control terminal 3 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between the ground terminal 2 and ground.
  2. Verify the actuator turns on & off.
?‡' If the function does not perform as specified, replace the applicable door latch.

Valves clacking changed the oil pump and lifters but still clacking what could be the problem

Do you know what a knock sensor is ? The knock sensor (KS) system enables the control module to control the ignition timing for the best possible performance while protecting the engine from potentially damaging levels of detonation. The control module uses the KS system to test for abnormal engine noise that may indicate detonation, also known as spark knock. If the control module has determined that knock is present, it will retard the ignition timing to attempt to eliminate the knock. The control module will always try to work back to a zero compensation level, or no spark retard. An abnormal KS signal will stay outside of the noise channel or will not be present. KS diagnostics are calibrated to detect faults with the KS circuitry inside the control module, the KS wiring, or the KS voltage output. Some diagnostics are also calibrated to detect constant noise from an outside influence such as a loose/damaged component or excessive engine mechanical noise Do you know what spark knock is or pinging ? How do you get the security light off

Take it to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop ! There is a DTC- diagnostic trouble code stored in the anti-theft module , which will point the technician in the right direction to correct the problem . Could have one or more of 12 possible codes ! This is nothing your going to be able to handle . Diagnostic Starting Point - Theft Deterrent Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle. The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information: ?€¢ The identification of the control modules which command the system

?€¢ The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit

?€¢ The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
