Location of body control module on 1997 bmw 740i
On a 01 740i, the body control module sits behind the glove box. Should be the same on any e38 I'd imagine. Remove the passenger kick panel and you will see it. The LCM is right behind the plastic panel directly to the right of your feet if you were sitting in the passenger seat.
2003 BMW X5 4.4 no crank no start
Check the basics first. Is battery fully charged? This is the most common reason for a no crank, no start. What exactly does it do when you turn the key? Nothing at all, no lights, no 'click' as you turn the key. A slow lazy crank?
1994 BMW 318i have one key only. The key slides in ignition won't start.

Question moved to model category.
All vehicles need 2 good keys.
I don't suppose you have a way of testing the battery voltage? It is drops below 11 volts, nothing works the way It should, including removing the key on a vehicle that is an automatic.
You have the symptoms of a car alarm and immobilizer stopping it starting. After disconnecting the battery, it definitely need resetting. You need a mobile auto locksmith you cut you a new key and program both keys to make it start. People always think they only need one key because they are careful and won't lose it. Then they do and you either pay dealership prices for a key to be made based on the VIN number, or you buy a new lock and keys and have the hassle of fitting it and reprogramming it.
