My freezer works but the refrigerator does not cool. At times if here what I think is the compressor running. There is a motor with a fan blade attached that I do not see running, would this have anything to do with the problem?

    the motor with the fan blade sits next to the compessor in the back of the refrigerator. If this is not the problem what could it be?

    could the condenensor fan be the same one i mentioned and does it set next to the copressor? does run all of the time the compressor runs?

Defected DEFROST HEATER can cause frost build up on the panel at the back of the freezer,and freezer stop cooling and ice frozen on unit so air could not flow to refrigerator side.Water will coming out caused of unbalanced freezing,and causing the flooding of water in the floor. You must change this defroster heater assembly so it will works normal again..

This is good! This indicates a defrosting system failure which is a simple control problem. It also means that the sealed system (compressor, evaporator coil, and all associated tubing) is fine as wine in summertime. Defrost system problems are easy fixes that anyone with a pulse can do with maybe just a little help from their friends. G'day mate

Yes,if you have a condenser fan then it should run when the compressor is running ,and may even run when it is not as well depending on the type of fridge/freezer it is. Do you have any more information on it, sounds like a commercial built in type unit. The freezer may be cooling, but to what degree. If it is only getting to -5 degrees, this is not enough and the fridge will be proportionately higher in temp. maybe even up to 15 degrees. is the fan motor seized or able to turn freely. . Is it getting supply voltage, is it a capacitor start type. if you give it a poke with a stick, can you get it to spin up normally when the compressor is running. Check these things out and we can go from there.

      In most refrigerator freezers the refrigerator gets its cold from the freezer. The evaporator fan circulates air over the coils in the freezer and cold air circulates into the refrigerator through vents. If the vents are blocked or closed, then the fridge will not get cold enough but the freezer will. If neither is cold enough, then the number of possibilities increases.

      Lowering the freezer temperature will increase the cooling cycle activity. Setting the refrigerator temperature may have little affect on the cooling cycles because it simply changes the vent opening size. Decreasing the fridge temperature opens the vents more and increases air circulation from the freezer.

      The temperature can be adjusted using the controls found inside the refrigerator or freezer. The ideal freezer temperature is about 0 to 5 degrees (F) and about 38 degrees (F) for the fridge.

      Measure the temperature by placing a cup of water with a cooking thermometer into the refrigerator for about 2 hours or more.

    The freezer and the fridge are cooled by the same system, air is moved to the fridge by a fan from the freezer, either the circulation fan is defective or the fridge thermostat is defective.

    HI,

    If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running.

    First, answer these questions:

    • Is the refrigerator completely dead? If so, see “It's stopped completely.”


    • Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? If not, reset it.


    Next, see if the compressor motor is running

    The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.

    If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:

  • The compressor


  • The Thermostat


  • The overload, relay, or capacitor


  • The defrost timer


  • The condenser fan motor

The condenser is like a radiator and must stay clean in order to dissipate the heat which was removed from the inside of the refrigerator.     The kenmore won't keep the fridge or the freezer cold and now its outer left panel gets hot when it runs and the heat extends all the way around to the doors. It has been running almost all the time,...

    Check the fan in the back of the refrig , which cools the compressor , for operation or blade obstruction . If not turning to keep the compressor cool , replace the fan motor .

    Compressor cooling fan not running. Found problem based on diagnosis of strip between freezer and refrigerator being hot. How do I get the fan running?

    You will have to replace the fan motor . Maybe you can turn the blade by hand to get it started . If not , try putting a small fan blowing on compressor towards front , so it will help keep the coils cool also , until you can get a new motor . If you had given model number , I could have given you the part number .

    Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down

    The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

    Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

    Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
    If yes, a defrost parts problem.
    Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
    If no, replace the freezer fan.
    Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
    If no, is compressor hot?
    If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
    If compressor is not hot.
    Replace the compressor start relay.

    General Electric Refrigerator

    Check the connection of the electrical harness to the fan motor. If it is fully connected and the motor still does not run replace the fan motor. The fan MUST operate at the same time as the compressor to properly cool the system. Spin the fan blade by hand with he power off. If it turns with any resistance the bearings are dry and in most cases the motor is replaced.

    Bosch KGU32160 fridge freezer

    The compressor behind the fridge should cycle on and off as the machine maintains temperature, but the evaporator fan inside the freezer will keep running, except when the fridge goes into defrost. If the noise is coming from the fan inside the freezer, there could be some ice on the frame of the fan and the blades are touching the ice. If the noise is coming from behind the fridge it could be the condensor fan motor. This fan is situated behind the fridge in front of or next to the compressor. It keeps the condensor cool by blowing air onto it. Check this fan. The blades could be touching the pipework or something.

    Not cooling

    If you still have this problem I would like for you to check to see if the fan below the refrigerator is blowing. This fan is called the condenser fan and is located beside the compressor in bottom rear under the refrigerator. If it is not running It may have a piece of paper or mouse or something lodged in the blade or it may just have bad motor bearings. If you use an exterior fan to blow air under the refrigerator it will cool again till you can replace the bad condenser fan motor.
