The 2nd computer the CD DVD Ram didn't work but the problem was sorted by some instructions from a chap called Gordon and a friend who is a computer engineer, I didn't feel confident enough to do this myself. I am now having the same problem, on going into Device manager DVD/CD-Rom HL-DT-ST DVDRAM_GSA-H6ON ATA Device has a yellow ! explanation mark. I need this sorted out once and for-all. I have been told that this fault is to do with Microsoft updates, and is an on going problem between Acer and Microsoft. How about one of you putting it right. I still can't use the CD/DVD Rom drive on a new computer I think this is appalling. Microsoft want £60. to put this right over the phone, I am an old age pensioner and can't afford this amount for something that tisn't my fault.

Your DVD Rom drive is faulty, you will need to go to a computer shop or an online auction site to buy one thats compatible with your laptop after you get this through the post on the back of your laptop will be a single screw with a picture next to it that looks like 3 Cd's by taking this screw out your DVD Rom drive will come out giving you access and to replace it.

Upgrade of dvd rom for acer aspire 3000

Hi,

Does Windows recognize it as something else in the device manager? You probably need to install the right drivers for the drive.

The draw keeps poping open after i shut it.

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd-rom then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
click start control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you will see options to update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
make sure that the cd-dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty

I have acer aspire 4520.I have upgraded to windows xp sp2. The empowering technology does not work.It says " the specified file is not found".I cannot find the empowering technology software...

Acer Aspire 4520 Notebook Technical Specifications:

Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Processor AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57 (512KB L2 cache, 1.9GHz) Chipset NVIDIA nForce 610M Memory 1GB (1GB installed in one of two memory slots) DDR2 667 SDRAM User upgradeable up to 4GB (one 2GB memory card in each slot)* subject to availability of 2GB cards
*If upgrading after initial purchase, one or more of the memory cards provided with the system may have to be replaced with optional larger memory cards in order to achieve the maximum capacity.
Storage 120GB* hard disk drive Integrated variable-speed Super-Multi drive (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM):
-Read - 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-R, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD-ROM, 8X DVD-R, 8X DVD+R, 6X DVD-ROM DL (double-layer), 6X DVD-R DL (double-layer), 6X DVD+R DL (double-layer), 6X DVD-RW, 6X DVD+RW, 5X DVD-RAM
-Write - 24X CD-R, 10X CD-RW, 8X DVD-R, 8X DVD+R, 4X DVD-R DL (double-layer), 4X DVD+R DL (double-layer), 6X DVD-RW, 8X DVD+RW, 5X DVD-RAM
5-in-1 card reader for optional MultiMediaCard™, Secure Digital card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO™ or xD-Picture Card™

Surely to load XP is a DownGrade. As this notebook is dual core, I would run Vista 64 or better still Windows 7 64.
If you wish to persist with an old system, you require SP3 for XP.That may be available from a software store but is no longer supported by Windows.
Try http://www.notebook-driver.com/laptops-information/acer-aspire-4520-notebook-technical-specifications/ for drivers that you will require to have support from Acer.

Hope that clarifies your situation.

Need to replace cd/dvd rom

Is the laptop still under manufacturer's warranty?
Was it purchased on a credit-card that offers an "extended" warranty?
If not, then purchase an external CD/DVD unit, because that will be less expensive than buying a replacement from the manufacturer, and paying a qualified computer-technician to disassemble your laptop, remove the "dead" drive, and connect the "new" drive.

Cd rom drive sr243t1 series-is this item still in production

ACER stocks parts for "discontinued" laptops, but they are VERY expensive.

Take your computer to a qualified technician, who can replace the CD-drive with an less-expensive "generic" replacement, and perhaps add DVD read/write capability.

Hello my name is Jodi Butler and I bought an Acer M1100 sometime in June 2008. My CD / DVD ROM has quit working. When I run a test on it the computer tells me the device is working properly, but it wont...

ok, have you tried reinstalling the drivers for your CD/DVD ROM? After reinstalling reboot the system if this doesn't work chances are it could be a hardware problem.

Hope this helps:)

I want to purchase a dvd burner for my aspire 3680

It is unclear to me whether your system will support a DVD burner. This is something that is influenced by the BIOS of a PC.

I found two places where your model is discussed, the first would seem to imply that the 3680 will support it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/t264099-acer_aspire_3680_could_not_load_dvd

The 2nd , from: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-3680-2682-Aspire/dp/B000UHXK8C

upgradeable to 2 GB DVD-Combo optical drive CD and DVD-ROM compatibility and lets you burn up to 700 MB of data on CD-R/RWs for easy backups

doesn’t seem to indicate that it can be added.

Look at your manual to see if your machine has a flash BIOS that can be upgraded. If so, it would be wise to go to the Acer website and download the latest BIOS version before you plan on adding a DVD burner.
