My cd/dvd burner on laptop wont recognise blank dvd
You said that you are using Windows XP. So, you have an older computer. Have you looked in the Device Manager and verified that it can read DVDs. Older system so you might have a CD only drive in there.Check it out

Bios CD-R/RW Toshiba SR-C8002
defective drive or dirty lense can cause this problem. And it could be a problem of mis-adjustment of the head (which will require factory repair).

Acer 4520 cd/dvd driver problem
Hi, the error code that you have is a known issue from Microsoft that needs a registry tweaks. Error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)" . You can click on this link for your reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. This will surely help you resolve your issue. Good Luck!!!Thanks

I have an acer aspire
Hi and welcome to Fixya,
What error message did you get when you tried to burn CD? Generally you can tell what kind of burner you have simply by looking at the drive. If it's a CD-RW drive, you'll see the word CD-RW or CD-R or the phrase Compact Disk Re-writable marked on the front of the drive. If it's a DVD burner, you'll see DVD-RW or DVD-R or DVD+RW marked on the drive. Most laptops today comes with a "DVD-Super Multi" which means it is DVD/CD Burner/Reader all in one.
Please post the error details here so we can provide more specific instruction. Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a notebook 4520G
Hello there is no problem with the driver of your CD rom the problem is in your CD rom. Try to clean your cd rom with a piece of clean cotton. Gentle rub the cotton on the lens of your CD rom, then try to insert a cd if the problem is still there clean it again and again. If does not get by cleaning it is good to be checked by a electronic technician because maybe the lens have a problem or may need an adjustment to the lens of your CD ROm. In ejecting your cd rom there is a problem with your cd rom microswitch which is located inside your CD rom or the trigger of the microswitch is miss align. Hope this can help..

Your DVD Rom drive is faulty, you will need to go to a computer shop or an online auction site to buy one thats compatible with your laptop after you get this through the post on the back of your laptop will be a single screw with a picture next to it that looks like 3 Cd's by taking this screw out your DVD Rom drive will come out giving you access and to replace it.
