I trying to hook up an Acer H203 monitor to a lenovo x61 laptop. The laoptop only has a 15 pin VGA cable connection and the Acer has a VGI and a DVI cable to conect. Am I still able to connect/use the monitor without the DVI connected or do I have to get/find a docking station that will allow me to connect both cables?

The cable box is probably outputting a resolution the monitor is not compatible with. Computer monitor and television resolutions are usually different, and not cross compatible in some cases.

For example, wide screen monitors are usually 16:10 aspect ratio, while TV is usually 16:9 aspect.

The AL2216wbd is a 1680x1050 display, while HD TV is either 720p (1280x720) or 1080i (1920x1080).

If your cable box is set to 1080i that would be too high for the monitor. You will need to set it to output at 720p, and even then you will probably get a vertically stretched picture since the monitor has a taller aspect.

Your Video Card´s DVI output is probably damaged. You will have to replace your video card , or use only the VGA output.

On my laptop, I have to press the Fn+F7 key to switch to use dual monitor. give it a try.

I took mine off to clean under it and had a similar problem. After a bit of struggling I figured it out. I will try to explain it as best as I can, but forgive the non-technical language:

There are two gray plastic pieces on the space bar that must be that must be latched to the two white plastic pieces on the computer. The gray pieces pop off the space bar easily. Take them and put them on the white pieces on the computer so that the white arms lay across (and snap into) the top and bottom of the gray piece. The middle of the gray piece will sit in between the two arms that are not "holding" the gray piece. Then take the space bar and put the metal part into the hole on one side (outside of the plastic pieces) and then push it over so you can put the opposite metal part into the other side. Then push the space bar straight down and it will snap into place.

Try going into your BIOS and setting the hard drive from your Docking Station as the primary boot device (1st on the list), then your laptop hard drive
