Hi Jwatkins99,

Depending upon the model of your Garmin, these tips should still apply. If your unit uses SD cards for maps, try deleting all other country maps, including Canada and Mexico, if you don't plan on going there. You should do a backup of the SD card data if possible. Use the computer for this. I usually backup the maps then delete some of the larger maps on the opposite coast or side of the country...if I don't plan on visits soon.

If you have external data in your units main memory, try clearing some of that out using your USB hookup to your computer. If your maps are on the main memory, be careful not to get into those Folders (Directories to us Nerds) and inadverently delete the software programming for the GPS unit.

Also, if you're using SD cards, your unit may allow you to use something larger than a 2-4 GB card. Then you should have plenty of memory.

Let me know if this helps. Thanks.

Regards, Bill

When i use garmin express to update the maps for my nuvi 52, i hit the install for maps and it doesn't complete the software update before it errors.

Do a hard reset on the device. Download Garmin Express and install it to your PC. Connect your device to your PC. Garmin Express will identify it and allow you to install all the maps and software that the device has a subscription to. You either have a corrupt file or a space issue. If it is a space issue, insert an SD card 8gb or less and have Garmin Express install the maps and updates to it.

Is it my responsibilty to update the maps and traffic by calling you, or is this a feature that automatically happens with the garmin 1390lmt i just bought?

The updates are YOUR responsibility. Plug the unit into the computer and navigate to garmin.com, you can download maps and updates from their site.
There is no automatic update unless you navigate your browser to the Garmin site.

I am trying to update garmin nuvi 250.I bought nu maps lifetime europe (2011.40) but device dose not have enough space for full coverage region.how much space is needed. If i buy a memory card for the...

The map takes approx 3 Gb of storage space so you need a 4 Gb memory card. When you download the map to your computer run it and install part of the map to your satnav. After this click the start button (bottom left of your computer screen) and find the menu folder "Garmin". In the Garmin folder you'll find "Mapinstall" With the memory card in your satnav, and the satnav connected to your computer run mapinstall being sure to select the memory card as the destination. (It will be by default your satnav not your memory card). When the installation is complete the satnav will automatically switch to the map on your memory card when needed. You'll find detailed instructions of how to prepare the memory card and install the map on it at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

Hello,

Some units do have memory limitations that wont let them accept the most current map upgrade my recommendation is contact garmin and have them instruct you on how to apply your update to an SD card or often they can provide partial maps that would allow you to load most of NA on the GPS.

Hope this helps!

Download update problem

Are you trying to update a Nuvi that already has European maps installed or are you trying to install European maps into a Nuvi that does not already have them?

If it's a map update, are you getting the error when you download the update to pc, or when you are trying to install the update to the Nuvi?

When I install US map updates into a streetpilot or Nuvi, it typically ends with a download error but the maps do in fact get updated and the new software versions are shown in the setup menus.

The Garmin rep I spoke with says that is normal.

If you are in the United States, I can get you maps, updates, and even install them for you if you wish.

Feel free to shoot me a message if you're interested.

Error message appeared and can not do anything with it now

Here is the the lastest response:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

If you updated your nuvi 200, 200w, 205, or 205w to City Navigator North America NT 2010.10 between 4/7/09 and 4/25/09, and your unit is display the message, "No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them." or "Can't unlock maps." A new revision of the 2010.10 update file (Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010C.exe) has been released which corrects this issue. To download this new revision, please follow these steps:

1. Log into your myGarmin account
2. Click Manage Maps and Downloads
3. Connect the nuvi to your computer
4. Click Download Again next to your nuvi
5. Click Launch Download Manager
6. Follow the prompts to install the Download manager
7. Save the file to your Desktop

The new download may take a few hours to download. Once the file has fully downloaded, double click the file to run it, and follow the onscreen prompts to begin the installation again. You will now be able to choose the appropriate region for your device.

Note: Please make sure to only select the region that originally came loaded to your device. For example, if you have a nuvi 200 that came with the Lower 49 States, select that region and not a region that includes Canada.
