Either its back light inverter board, or, the LVDS cable has the fault. First try by re-seat the LVDS cable, and check. Thus you can make sure about the fault. If you wish to get more details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic /Timeslide, can be selected by the drop-down list, by the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name / model number / IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

Decrease the resolution 1280X800, or 1024x720.

The dark screen with faint, hard to see display is due to the failure of (i) CCFL (Cold Cathode Florecent Lamp) OR LED, which is the back light or the (ii) Inverter board, which provides high voltage to the CCFL. So, it is recommended that you get it properly checked by any professional for replacement of CCFL/LED.

a bad inverter (< it's power supply) is for the back ground lamps. not data side. the data side is failing and is common, if you twist the screen

Yes, if you can see a very faint image on the screen that indicates that the inverter or inverter coil has become defective and needs looking at or replacing.

Look for a small turning wheel, just below the green and pink selection knobs, on the front right of your machine. Turn it anticlock wise for a darker image and clockwise for a lighter image. Enjoy!

My MDA loses its settings frequently as well. Go to Start, Settings, System, Backlight, and see what it looks like. Maybe the settings have changed.

This would almost have to be a video driver problem. Try the WIndows default video drivers for some common settings (like 1024x768) and reboot and see if this fixes it. If it does, the problem is video drivers - download the latest from the web and install them.

If this doesn't fix it, try reinstalling the latest version of DirectX. Also, try stepping down VIDEO HARDWARE ACCELERATION through the video settings display panel. Finally, if it really only does it when you run a new program, as a last resort, you can try to reinstall the operating system from scratch and install the latest drivers from the laptop manufacturer.
