The 79 error is an internal firmware error. www.hp.com Download the firmware. The printer has to be ready to install it. If you can't get it to READY, you will have to get a firmware recovery DIMM from HP. Or try a local printer repair shop. Because this is an old printer, you may not be able to get a recovery DIMM.
Perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit. 2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to "walk out" and then quickly remove the plug again. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place. 4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle 5. Please ensure that the current firmware update (20021018W) is installed. You can download and install the same from the link given below:
Printer has a firmware problem. Go to www.hp.com Select support and drivers. Select your printer Find the firmware that you need and upload it and install it. Make sure that you follow the directions to the letter.
The error 79 on that machine means that the scanner assembly has failed to align/calibrate. Could be due to a bad calibration strip on the scanner glass, have you ever sprayed glass cleaner directly onto the scanner glass? If so this can stain the calibration strip and render the scanner useless. It is probably best to have the machine serviced by HP.
Hi The option you have is to check and make sure the connection between the formatter and scanner formatter are properly seated. The 79 error you are getting means you should try and do a firmware upgrade it could be giving you a problem and more than likely fix the issue.
