It sounds as if you are trying to install the printer to work over the network. Most of the consumer grade printers need to be directly connected directly to a computer with the LPT or USB cable so it can talk back and forth between the printer and the computer....i.e., a bi-directional connection. They will not usually work with a network connection or wireless setup because although you can print to them, they don't know how to talk back to the computer.
If you are connecting with a standard LPT cable, check that the cable is not damaged and securely installed and fastened into the printer port on the back of your computer...or the USB cable if you're using a USB port connection.
OK you need to go into your BIOS and enable the correct option in you LPT Printer port settings, LPT setting is set to EPP in the bios & save. This should sort that problem out.
To scan documents for editing and saving as PDF file, you will
need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark
scan software (no downloadable version) is only available on the installation
disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark
Technical Support Center for assistance.
