Because did not use the printer for 2 month i had to clean the print heads. because there was a coulor pattern always across the pages i had to repeat several times the cleaning processand print the test page. Suddenly it did not print anything anymore, recieved blanc pages and in display the message: Init Unable 48, See troubleshooting and routine maintenance chapter in User's guide.the advices there did not help, there was nothing inside like clips etc, switch the power off for 5 minutes did not help either.

  • hermann175 Jan 16, 2008

    more details of the problem:
in ink management i only check the ink levels, all other requests are answerded with: Init Unable 48

  • hermann175 Jan 16, 2008

how can i check the print head, where to open the printer ?

  • hermann175 Jan 16, 2008

it has definitely something to do with printing.
If i pess copy and start it shows again: Init Unable 48 and is doing nothing.
If i use paintshop i can scan a document from flatbed and from document feeder.
by the way: i use original ink cartridges.

  • hermann175 Jan 21, 2008

The ink cartridges are in a fixed position on the right side in front of the printer and have nothing to do with the print head, they are never moving. Print head must be somewhere covered and not to see. don't want open everything to search for the printhead.

I Have checked user manual once more to understand the issue. it says for "Init Unable"

CAUSE
The machine has a mechanical
problem.
—OR—
A foreign objects such as a clip or
ripped paper is in the machine.

Solutions indicated as
Open the scanner cover and remove any foreign
objects inside the machine. If the error message
continues take the cartridges out and check the surrounding if object around. Put the cartridges back by ensuring firmly fitted. power cycle once more and test. If issue persist please post for further help.

Good Luck

Also you can check the gears if something stuck you can gently move and check again so sensor will detect the difference.

Sometimes wheels might be not accurate position for the sensors. You may move the wheels slowly both sides. So sensors will detect different position.

Hi,

What is the condition of your print cartridges? They could have dried out during the 2 month period that you didn't use the printer. Try, cleaning the contacts of the cartridges and the printer. If you have new cartridges to try....even better.

If your unit can only see tht ink levels then the problem probably lies with the ink cartridges or the print head. I suggest trying other cartridges...say, are you using original cartridges?

Is your print head stuck by any chance?

The print head is the unit that holds the cartridges. Do you see or hear it moving (for example when you open the printer, does it move to another position)?

I suspect the moving part in your printer is mechanically stuck. You either need to get it serviced or you need to get access to the moving part and try to free it if possible.

Problem with my printer Brother MFC-240C "Print unable 4F"

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart,
try this step by step.without missing any thing. thanks
