My kenmore elite has a water leak, I have removed power to the unit and it seems the rear drain under the freezer coil is frozen, so as water accumulates, it eventually freezes under the freezer lower shelf tray, and we then see water dripping down into the fridge section thru its vents. I cannot get to the back of the unit, seems to be one piece, any thoughts? I saw remanants of putty where the steel water tray fitted to the drain hole ...

Water is leaking into teferagerator, seemingly from the freezer compartment. It is a Kenmore Coldspot model 106.72132101 type 21 TFA.

Hello,

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

Good luck

I hope this helps

The bottom of the freezer keeps getting a layer of ice. I take the ice out about once a week. Now there is so much ice that it is leaking water on to the floor before it freezes. We have a Kenmore elite...

The evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the inside of the freezer at the bottom of the rear cover.

Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerate leaks

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curatain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the Freezer is because the water has been leaking into the freezer instead of running into the drain hole...If you need any further assistance please feel free to comment again. good luck! P.s Please don't forget to rate my solution thanks! Mike.

Water Leak around left front wheel

I would check the defrost drain inside the freezer. this is real easy to do on this model refrig.
  • remove bottom basket (if it isnt frozen in place) and the shelf above it.
  • in th back just below the coil cover in the freezer section there is a ledge that will most likely be frozen over remove this ice using a hair dryer or hot water which ever is conveinant for you
  • you should uncover a drain hole flush this drain with hot water I use a turkey baster or large syringe to forcefully push water thru to clear anything in the drain
  • put it back together and you should be good to go
when ever the unit goes into defrost (which is about twice a day) the water runs over the ledge and then out of the door by the hinge puddling up next to the wheel. this unit has a hard fiberglass drain pan that is built in and unless it has been dropped i cant imagine the drain pan being damaged.
Let me know if you have any other questions Peyton

Old Kenmore refrigerator leak

common issue.....sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

Kenmore Elite 795 75542401

I replaced my "entire" ice cube maker (tube, hoses, water pump, ice maker) and it still pooled water at the bottom. I removed the back panel in the freezer and noticed the ciols go through a defrost cycle and water forms in tray under coils. I removed the lower panel on rear of fridge -and found a drain hose near the water solenoid/pump. I blew compressed air into the hose and hopefully unblocked it so it can drain into the pan not the freezer.

Whirlpool refrigerator w/ top freeezer

It has a plugged defrost drain. You may need to defrost for 24 hours with unit unplugged and doors open. UNPLUG FIRST!! f still leaks, you need to remove floor of freezer, then the back wall of freezer. Remove ice. At center rear under coils is the drain hole that is plugged up. Use hair dryer to melt ice. Pour hot water in this area to uncover drain. With hot water in area, you can put a 1/4 diam. hose or copper pipe in drain and blow into it while pressing down. It will slowly go through ice, clearing drain.
