Bose Sound Dock remote control - only volume works

My original Bose Sound Dock system will no longer work with the remote control. Volume still works but not play/pause or forward and back commands. I know that the problem is not the remote control as I bought a replacement remote and exactly the same thing happens. Any ideas?

My remote worked perfectly until I changed the battery. The original battery was CL 2032 and I replaced it with DL 2032. After replacing the battery, only the volume control works. The off button will only fade the sound while the button is depressed. Release the button, and the volume returns to the original level and the unit remains On.
None of the other buttons work.

I resolved my issue by removing my iPod from the dock and unplugging the SoundDock. I waited a few seconds and plugged the SoundDock back in. I then placed my iPod back into the dock.

I played a song and tried to use the right/skip button to skip to the next song. At first it didn't work. Then, I held the right button down for a few seconds. After that, all buttons worked just fine.

I hope this works for you. In case it doesn't, here is what the user manual says:

    • Remove your iPod from the dock, wait five seconds, then firmly reseat the iPod in the dock.
    • Try the remote from a different location. If it works there, check for interference from bright room lights or sunlight. Wipe off the small lens on the front end of the remote with a clean, dry cloth.

    • Make sure there is a clear pathway between the remote lens and your SoundDock system.

    • Remove and reinsert the battery as shown on page 6.

    • Replace the remote control battery as shown on page 6.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you - but I have a question! Can I ask where you purchased your replacement remote control as mine is broken? Ta.

Hello fellow music lovers,
I had the issue of only the volume controls working (there was no skipping and when I would try to shut down it would turn back on). So I did 2 things and now all is working fine, but not sure if both steps are necessary.

I disconnected the battery pack from the docking unit, and I restored my ipod to factory settings and re downloaded all my music. As I stated earlier, everything now works perfectly.

Hope this helps all of you.
Cheers

Same problem. Bose Sound Dock II only responds to volume -/+ and off/on. Dock light flashes with all remote buttons, but the docking unit does not send ANY commends to ipod. Volume and off/on affect only docking station, all ipod commands are not transmitted to ipod. Replacing remote, batteries etc. does not change this assessment. I suspect the docking station is not communicating at all with the ipod, but the ipod is sending music to docking station. Tried compressed air on connectors etc. nothing. Bose 1-800 service indicates docking station must be returned for repairs.

Bose system is just over 1 yr old, hooked up to Smart Tv ( same age) sound was working fine, turned volume down, no sound at all after that

Hi, You have a Bose Home Theater System hooked up to your television and I'm wondering if you're controlling the volume through the Bose Home Theater System or the television because both have a volume control and if you have the television volume turned down and you're using the Bose Home Theater System for volume or visa-versa then you're not going to get a decent sound. I hope you know what I mean...... CHEERS..

I repair these fro a local store. The best best is to visit www.invebo.com and enter your dock serial number to access the diagnostic and check videos for your particular dock. The volume control problem can be due to several faults. The most likely is the docking board. Invebo sell kits on a buy and try basis. First have a look at the diagnostic videos. You may be able to get it going yourself.

My volume control on my Aiwa surround sound system no longer responds to my remote controller. Everything else works fine using the controller

Assuming the physical volume control on the receiver still works I would say the remote's volume control is faulty.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:
http://remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Display&contents=help_deadremote&uuid=A12963989782821
They also sell replacement remotes.

Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.

or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remotes", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

Bose sounddock remote and ipod menu functions

Unfortunately I've never seen a universal remote that will control the extra functions of this. If it's the original SoundDock, you can only do: volume, power, play/pause, skip/scan. If this is a SoundDock II or SoundDock Portable, you can only control: volume, power, play/pause, skip/scan, and playlist up/ playlist down. Quite honestly, that's all I need to do on my SoundDock. I can't really read what's on my iPod from where I'm sitting in the first place. It may be possible to use a universal learning remote for this, but you'd have to teach commands from an apple remote as well as the bose remote, and the learning remote (+apple remote) may cost you over 1/3 the cost of the SoundDock. It also may not work perfectly. I hope this helps somewhat.
