first you must put the blue tooth device in pairing mode, most blue tooth device manufactures use the power button for this ,by holding the power button down for 6 to 10 seconds when turning the device on it usually puts it into discovery mode,a solid light might stay on ,then you have to enter a pairing or pin code. Now most manufactures of blue tooth devices use a 4 digit factory pin pairing code they are asw follows 0000,.1234,9999,or 1111 i hope this helps
First of all, go into Settings and then Wireless & Network settings on your Droid X, then push Turn on Bluetooth. The check mark in the box should be green once its on. Then click Bluetooth Settings.
Meanwhile, turn on your headset by sliding the power switch towards the microphone. The light should flash blue and red.
Now go back to your phone and push Scan for Devices, at which point you should see something like "XXXPlantronicsHeadsetXXX". Push that, and it should work. IF it asks you for a passcode, its 0000.

How to pair a phone to a blue tooth device?
Instructions
Pair Your Blackberry with a Blue-tooth Headset
Turn on Blue-tooth headset and Blackberry hand-held.
Enable the Blue-tooth radio by going to the options window and clicking on Blue-tooth. Click on Enable Blue-tooth in that window.
Add your Blue-tooth headset to your Blackberry by clicking on Add Device in the Blue-tooth window.
Find and select the name of your Blue-tooth headset from the list that appears. The Blackberry will search for all Blue-tooth devices within range, so other devices might show up on the list.
Click Activate Blue-tooth device if you receive a call and the Blue-tooth headset does not pick up automatically.
Use your Blue-tooth Headset with your Blackberry
Make sure the Blue-tooth radio on your Blackberry is turned on before you try to use your Blue-tooth headset.
Use the voice-dial feature to call contacts if your headset has that capability. Not all headsets support voice dialing, but more of the newer models do.
Press the on/off button on your headset to end a call or use the end button on the hand held.
Tips & Warnings
Pair your Blackberry with any Blue-tooth-enabled device using the same steps as those for connecting a Blue-tooth headset.
Remove your Blue-tooth headset from the list of paired devices on your Blackberry by selecting and clicking on Delete Device in the Bluetooth window.
Configure your Blackberry to connect to a paired Bluetooth headset without asking for authorization in the Bluetooth Device Properties window. That will allow your headset to automatically reconnect even if you take it out of range temporarily.
Only configure a Bluetooth headset to your Blackberry once. Once you configure the pairing between the two devices, the settings are saved and you do not have to repeat the processes each time you use it.
Turn off the Bluetooth radio on your Blackberry when not in use for security reasons.
Adjust volume on your headset or hand-held to a comfortable level. Excess volume from in-the-ear headsets can cause hearing damage.
