Smoking Craftsman Riding Mower

I have a 2 year old 24hp. Sears Riding Mower, 48" Deck. When I engage the blades it blows out a large puff of grey smoke. When mowing it smells like it is burning oil. I do not smell this without the blades turning-extra load related. I do engage the blades at full throttle as recommended. Oil gets changed every 20 hours but I have noticed the level decreasing, so it is already using oil. Only about 60 hours on mower

1st thing, check your dipstick up inside the cap part of it and make sure the O'ring is there and in good condition.
2nd, make certain when you put it back on that you get it on straight and firmly seated. They will only seat one way properly the other way creates a leak into the crankcase and causes oil consumption and smoking. You should be able to tell if it has been improperly installed by an excessive amount of oily dirt accumulated around the threaded area of the cap

Blade still running after lever is disenagaged on Sears Craftsman LT2000 2010 riding mower.

the moveable arm that the blade engage pulley is attached to has a hole for a spring as well as the deck (or at least an attached immoveable bracket). spring goes there to bring the blades to a stop when putting the lever in the off possition.

My deck mower(craftsman 917.271530)keeps shredding deck belts

You either have a bad bearing on one of the pulleys or one is loose and moving up and down drawing the belt when it is engaged. I would pull the mower deck off and go through it .

What is the part no. of the blades on a 42 in. mower

You can go to Sears' website at www.partsdirect.com and enter your model # (usually found under the seat) to view the diagrams for your model and locate your part #'s. Once you find the Sears #'s, you can find replacement blades for your mower at Partsbuggy's Sears page here - http://www.partsbuggy.com/ope/ayp_roper_searsmower_parts.htm. It also lists Sears' part numbers along with the blades and belts by deck size.

Blades will not engage on Husqvarna riding mower.

Could be a broken belt, loose belt (stretched) or something is under the mower deck jamming the blades. (stick for an example)

Engine dies when i engage the blades on my craftsman 24hp 48" deck model dyt4000

There is a safety switch that is connected to the seat, so that if you get out of the seat with the blades running, it will shut the mower off. That switch may be bad, or disconnected. Look for a pair of wires running up under the bottom of the seat. As a short-term fix or a test, you could connect those two wires together.

Craftsman riding mower noise when blades engaged

With blades on and engine off reach under and wiggle each blade up and down. If you have excess play you will need bearings.
