Make sure you have the rite charger. Garmin will only work with a garmin charger. You may have accidently picked up a blackberry charger or something. Hope this helps

My Garmin Nuvi 250 w gets stuck on the screen showing a picture connecting a computer to Garmin. I have it in my car and resetting hasn't worked. any suggestions

Hello,

The nuvi is being put into mass storage mode (the mode used to transfer data back and forth to a computer). This is usually caused by using the wrong vehicle power cable.
The correct cable is Garmin part number 010-10723-06.

1) Disconnecting the nuvi from the charging cable.

When you plug it into your computer the satnav is meant to go into the mass storage mode. It should charge but it charges at only half the speed it would with a charger (i.e. it takes approx 8 hours to charge.)

The problem is with the socket at the back of the satnav where you plug in the mini USB plug of the power cord. As the socket wears it feels as if the plug is in fully when it's not. Push the plug in further and the problem should be solved.

The issue is with your car charger. Replace the charging cord and your problem should be resolved. It is also the cheapest thing to do.
Second, if your Garmin GPS is relatively new, and still under warranty, you may contact Garmin Customer support and they will replace it for you.

While plugged into car garmin will not display maps

It has gone into "Mass Storage Mode" because it thinks it is connected to a computer. Are you using something other than the Garmin power cord such as a cell phone charger?
