You can restore the Nuvi 205 system software to its factory condition by running Garmin's WebUpdater service. You may also want to try a hard reset of your Nuvi.

Buy a adapter for your cigarette lighter socket that has multiple sockets with one that will fit the Garmin adapter.

If not get one.

Go to https://my.garmin.com/maps/checkPlugin_updates.htm and download the map install application. Follow all the onscreen instructions and connect the GPS to your computer when told to do so. You will now be able to purchase the new maps. If you have never updated your maps before Garmin usually lets you have a free map upgrade for the first time. You will also need to register your GPS with Garmin to get the free upgrade.

Use the Garmin Express program from Garmin. Down load and install the program, then connect your GPS to your PC. The program will identify your GPS and tell you of any available map and software updates.

If you have a Garmin purchased well before 2019 dont do a full reset unless you really need to. This will reboot the system and you may fall foul of the 2019 GPS rollover. My unit was from 2015 and after a reset in 2022 the date was very wrong and nobody has a fix for it for satnavs just GPS units with an RS232 connector.

REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.
By the way, the correct Garmin approved power OR download cables are a must!!

The fuse may be gone in the charger. There's a ring, near the silver tip, of the plug that goes into the cigarette lighter. If you unscrew the ring the plug will come apart. Take care not to lose the silver tip as it may fall out. Replace the fuse and it may solve the problem.
