Dont get exactly your problem but i will try to give some tips.

1. Hanged for about 10 to 15 mins, then proceed to windows? if this is the case, then i would check first the boot sequence, sometimes computer uses network boot.

2. Removed external HDD or flash drive when booting.

3. At the BIOS, try to change the SATA mode to compatibility

Sorry for the delay responding. Info comes from http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Laptop_Repair/message/646 Joe K Sony Vaio Hi Joe I have a unit now with the MBX 49 board that is totally dead does not charge battery or work from a known charged battery. The small fuse at the rear F2801 is OK, 19V on input to Q2803 nothing out from one that I worked on earlier I noted that this should have 19 on the output. This is a fet and is not being swithed on as the gate is also at 19V not pulled low as for P channel fet. SOURCE: Computer won't boot or won't even enter setup

Try disconnecting all peripherals then boot up, except for those you need, i.e. video card, keyboard... If that doesnt work you may need a BIOS update... Refer to the picture below to find your BIOS code, the four numbers represent the date which you must use to find out if you need an update...

SOURCE: I have an msi ms-7390 k9n sli ver 2 motherboard

move the sata connection for your bootable HDD to another port like 3 or 4 and the bios will detect then run bios setup to boot from the sata 3 or 4 and it works like normal, must be a bug in sata 1 and 2. had same issue trying to install win7 x64. Win 7 refuses to detect sata DVD drive, moved it on the MB and it installed fine.

How do I access the boot menu at startup, Sony vaio vgn cr190 Win XP?

You can either try to spam the F12 button upon start-up to directly select which device to boot from, or either F4 or Delete are the typical keys used to get into the BIOS and you can change the boot order from there to automatically select a CD drive device if it ever detects one.

How to reset mbx 160 bios for a sony vaio

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.
