Most likely you have a problem with your CD drive in the Lifestyle system. I suggest to contact Bose, to ask for a repair.

Dear John

I am afraid the DVD ROM of your Media Center needs replacement. However, you may first need to clean the optical lens and see if it works,if not,you will have to contact a Bose Service Technician to replace the DVD ROM

Unsupported format message for normal CDs

Have you tried completely powering down the system, removing the power cord from the wall socket? If not, please try that. Wait two minutes. Then plug it in and power up the system. If this does not clear the problem, contact Bose, to get the latest firmware disk. The firmware disk will reprogram your Lifestyle sound system. Then, everything should work properly.

Bose lifestyle 48 says format unsupported for audio cds

Hi Johnxxlt,
According to Bose, the message that you have is due to dust in the system ....
They have offered 3 ways :-
Try cleaning the CD or DVD, as follows:

  • Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove stains or fingerprints from the disc surface

  • Wipe in straight movements from the center of the disc to the outside

  • Do not use any chemical cleaning products. They can damage the disc.
If the above will not fix the problem, you need to call them to repair the system.
I know its frustrating, However, we cannot play more with Bose as it might void the warranty if any.
Thanks for using Fixya.
Do rate the solution as "Fixya" if 100% satisfied.

Format unsupported

Format unsupported simply means the unit can not read the disc. The problem is either the disc or the player.

Contact Bose technical support if you are sure the discs are good. 800-367-4008

Not an Audio CD/Format Unsupported

Clean the CD and try again. Also, if DVD displays "not supported", call Bose and ask to recieve an update disc. These updates are released every 6 months. Document your remote control settings before loading the update as they may be erased by the update and will require re-entering settings after the update.

Bose Lifestyle 38 Unsupported Format message

All you have to do is carefully take the top off and clean the "Iris" which is the reader with a little alcohol and cotton swab. Bose will charge $165 plus shipping to do this. Go to website metacafe.com and search how to clean DVD players and it will show a video, easy to understand.
