3. Restart Windows.

NOTE: When the system starts up, several services may fail; a message informing the user to use Event Viewer to review errors may appear.

4. Rename or move the corrupt *.evt file from the following location:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Config

5. In Control Panel Services tool, re-enable the Event Log service by setting it back to the default of Automatic start up, or change the registry Start up value back to 0x2.
FAT partition (Alternative method)

1. Boot to a MS-DOS prompt using a DOS bootable disk.

2. Rename or move the corrupt *.evt file from the following location:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Config

3. Remove the disk and restart Windows.

When Windows is restarted, the Event Log file will be recreated.

How to Protect Your USB from Receiving Virus

If you want to protect your USB from receiving unwanted files i.e. virus, worm, spy, trojan etc than you are at the right place.
What I'm gonna tell you is that how to setup your registry to stop a computer from saving files to your USB (It'll block all of them)

If you have windows XP with SP2, then you can disable the writing option to USB drives. This trick is very useful if you have virus in your computer and want to copy files from a USB Drive but don’t want to transfer virus to the USB. Follow the given steps to disable the USB writing option:

To edit the computer registry, first you should log onto your computer with administrative rights.

First click on Start button and type “Regedit” in Run option.

Here locate the location to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl

Here in right side panel, click right to create a key with the name “StorageDevicePolicies”.

Now in left side panel, select “StorageDevicePolicies” key, again right click to create new DWORD value then label it “WriteProtect”. Set its value to “1?. But again to enable writing, set its values to “0?.

Now close the registry editor
Note: If it won't work then restart your pc

Alternative way:
TO TURN ON THE PROTECTION
open notepad and copy and paste the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorageDevicePolicies]
"WriteProtect"=dword:00000001

Now save the file with the extension ".reg".
Double click on the file you just saved. In the pop-up window click YES and then OK.
That's it your USB is now protected

To TURN PROTECTION OFF:
open notepad and copy and paste the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorageDevicePolicies]
"WriteProtect"=dword:00000000
Now save the file with the extension ".reg".
Double click on the file you just saved. In the pop-up window click YES and then OK.
That's it your protection is now disabled.

Click OK. 5. Click and drag all the folders in the Documents and Settings folder to copy them to the new folder, except for the folder for the currently logged-on administrator. 6. Log off and then log back on, using a different administrator account from the one that you just logged off from. 7. Open the Documents and Settings folder again, and then copy the profile of the administrator that you just logged off from to the new folder. This extra step is needed because you cannot copy the profile of the account that is currently logged on. 8. Log off the computer, and then again log on to the computer as an administrator. 9. Start Registry Editor, and then click Find on the Edit menu. 10. Type documents and settings, and then click Find Next. 11. For every registry key or value that contains the original path, replace the value data or rename the value or registry key to the new path.IMPORTANT: You must complete this change in the registry for every instance of the original path, or your computer may not start. It is imperative that you update all registry keys and values with the new path.

12. Restart the computer. You can now safely remove the original Documents and Settings folder.

Cannot enable sytems restore. Message: Group

1. Click Start, Run and type regedit.exe and press Enter

2. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ SystemRestore

In the right-pane:

* Delete the value DisableConfig
* Delete the value DisableSR

3. Exit the Registry Editor.

In Windows XP Professional, you can accomplish the above using Group Policy Editor as well.

1. Click Start, Run and type GPEDIT.MSC

2. Navigate to this path:

-> Computer Configuration
--> Administrative Templates
---> System
----> System Restore

3. Set Turn off System Restore to Not Configured

4. Set Turn off Configuration to Not Configured

Turn off System Restore corresponds to DisableSR registry value. With this Policy is turned ON, the System Restore tab may be missing in My Computer Properties. Also, when you run System Restore (rstrui.exe), you receive this message:

System Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore, contact your domain Administrator.

Turn off Configuration corresponds to DisableConfig registry value. With this Policy turned ON, the System Restore tab will remain displayed but the user cannot configure the SR options. It reads disabled by Group Policy.

Error reading event file

The EVT files include the event log messages as they are stored by the system. Each message is composed of an ID (that is, the message itself) and a number of insertion strings. The IDs are translated into strings through the use of messages DLLs.

All the application event logs messages DLLs are defined under the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\ Application

All the system event logs messages DLLs are defined under the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\ System

For example, the TCP/IP service's message DLL is defined under the following registry entry:
Key = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\ System\TcpIp Value = EventMessageFile REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\ netevent.d

Therefore, all the TCP/IP event log messages are defined in the DLL netevent.dll.

When the user double-clicks an event for which the message DLL is not defined in the registry, the message string cannot be displayed and the following message is displayed: The description for Event ID (51) in Source (aservice) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): ... Below is a description of a way to read the system event logs of a computer with WINS on a computer without WINS. This sample can be adapted for any application or system component.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.

The following operations are required:

On the computer with WINS, run REGEDIT and select the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\ System\Wi
On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File and select a file name (for example, Winsreg.reg).
On the computer without WINS (for example, the one used to read the system event logs of the computer with WINS), run REGEDIT. On the Registry menu, click Import Registry File and select the file Winsreg.reg previously saved on the other computer.
You should now have the following registry entry on the target computer (that is, the one without WINS):
Key = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ EventLog\System\Wins Value = EventMessageFile REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\ winsevnt.d

You now need to copy the file defined in the EventMessageFile registry value in your System32 directory. If X: is mapped to \\wins_server\admins$, you can run the following command: copy x:\System32\winsevnt.dll %SystemRoot%\System32\winsevnt.dll
Of course, the file may be copied somewhere else, but in this case you need to edit the EventMessageFile registry value manually so that it points to the directory with the DLL.
Close all the instances of the Event Viewer and rerun the Event Viewer. You should now be able to dump all the WINS events.

Be VERY careful when editing the registry as one mistake and your system may no longer boot!

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSpooler
Right-click the DependOnService value, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, delete the event that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

Note Typically, RPCSS is the only service that is in the DependOnService value.

If you don't want see a printer notification event in the event log you can disable that..

Start regedit and find the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers".
Add "Eventlog" and set the value "Reg_DWORD" at "0".

You will need to edit the registry to do this.

If you don't want see a printer notification event in the event log you can disable that..

Start regedit and find the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers".
Add "Eventlog" and set the value "Reg_DWORD" at "0".

If I understand what you are needing to do is to Disable Print Job Notification in Event Viewer for Windows Vista Home Premium

When you are in the registry editor

and at
"System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers]
you should have seen and entry, right ?

name type Data
eventlog Reg_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To change the DATA value, double click on the NAME Eventlog
A small window will open that says "edit DWORD value"

Value Name: event log
leave this the same, it is not changeable

Value Data:
Change this data to 0
You can go back into the registry to confirm this value was changed, then turn off your computer and turn it back on again.

This should work for you.
