I recently replaced a black ink and for a couple of weeks the ink printed perfectly. Now all of a sudden both color and black ink come out very faded and the lettering has a double shadow. The printer has giving me no prompt to change the cartridge so what is the problem?

Check the following thread, it might apply to your problem. and just as a printer can be fooled to show a low level ink, I guess it can happen the other way around. http://www.fixya.com/problems-solutions/t103191,p342983/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R300-InkJet-Printer.aspx Good luck

Hello, I am having the same problem and have done extensive research to find out that with this exact problem you have mentioned, you must clean the printer head, nozzles, and waste ink tube. the process is a bit long and needs patience. You will have to take the print head assembly out of the sliding caddle and put it in a glass of rubbing alcohol to disolve the dryed ink within the printer head assembly. it is held in with a silver metal plate that runs across the assembly and screws to the sliding carriage. be carefull to remove the black clip on the right of the carriage to take it out. note to be careful to not pull the white info lines of the head. leave it in the glass overnight and also clean the tube that runs under the waste pad station and clean the clear waste tube as well. ....Good luck

Had the same problem but this worked for me. To force a cartridge change, press and hold down the PAPER FEED button for at least 5 seconds as suggested here:

I then changed the black cartridge, even though I hadn't used much ink from the old cartridge and the computer was showing it as three quarters full.

Hi-
Sorry to say but NO you can't print if there are other inks which ae empty, thats one safety features of epson printers to prevent nozzle clogging. change the other ink carts as well for you to continue printing.
