You do not plug Chromecast into your laptop HDMI port, it is a video source, so you need to plug it into an HDMI port on your TV. Your TV is an HDMI target, the view side.

If you can run Chrome browser on your laptop, you can cast from your laptop to your Chromecast device and watch that frame on your TV.

2. Uncheck Enable Wireless Isolation This step will disable AP Isolation.
3. Uncheck Disable IGMP Proxying This step will turn Multicasting ON.

Chromecast is connected to the TV and not to your computer. Your TV should have free HDMI port to connect the Chromecast.
You should WiFi configured and both chromecast and you computer ( you can use wired connection for PC) should be connected to the same network (router).

Hi, this could be a power issue, are you using a USB port on the TV to power the Chromecast?

Some older USB ports might not have enough power capacity in which case you should use the small power adaptor that came with your Chromecast and power it from a wall socket.

All you need is a free HDMI port. The Chromecast comes with a USB power adapter to plug into the wall, or if you have a free USB port on your TV you can use it. It works great, but there is a bit of a learning curve to understand how to connect it. I use my Windows 8.1 tablet and my Windows 7 notebook.
