SOURCE: Cannot print odd-sized envelope with 4250 LJ

We are using standard size envelopes and the default used to be drawer one. Now if we have envelopes in the manual feed it wants to pull from there no matter what we select.

SOURCE: My HP LaserJet 4200 prints fine from tray 2, but will NOT print envelopes from tray 1. It WILL print on regular paper from tray 1, but will not print envelopes. What gives? I've already rebooted the

Are there settings on the control panel of your printer?
Is the tray 1 the MP tray? (The one that flips towards you)
If so, can you change the settings of the Tray 1 to Envelope on the control panel?

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Printer Error When Printing Envelopes

I had the same problem with my 7260 and I finally changed the paper type from automatic to plain paper. Go to either Properties or Preferences in your printer set up window. Somehow this turns off some sort of sensor. It might work for you, too. To the person who is using the Hallmark program, that is where I first encountered the problem, I then tried to print an envelope from Word and the same error message came up. I found this solution online from someone using a three in one printer/fax/copier so I tried it and it worked for me, too! I hope this helps......

SOURCE: HP 1280 Error message

OK, to make this clearer, I had the same problem on my HP C7180. It seems to be rampant throughout their Multifunction printers.

My Fix, combining several others:

1. Go to Printers and Faxes on your Start Menu. In the Printers window, select Server Properties from the File menu. Use the Forms tab of the Print Server Properties dialog box to view printer forms. You may also see lots of forms that you wish your printer could see, but don't worry, it'll see the one you create now. And be sure when you create your form that you use the narrower dimension for the width and the longer dimension for the height. Usually for envelopes you will print in landscape mode.
2. Select the Create A New Form check box.
3. Enter a new name for the Form in the Form Description For field.
4. Use the fields in the Measurements area to set the paper size and margins. *Use the narrower dimension for the width and the longer dimension for the height*.
5. Choose the Save Form button to save the form. The Save Form button only gets pick-able when you type in a different name than what's there already.

Now go to your document program, such as Word. Make sure the window for the document you want to print is the active window. Select File/Page Setup..., Paper Size Tab, and there select the form you just created from the dropdown list

Still in your document program, select File/Print... then Properties. Select the Features tab, which may be differently named. Under Resizing Options/Size dropdown, select More... and there you'll find your newly created form down at the bottom, under Custom. Pick it.

If you're printing envelopes or other things where the way you view it it's wider side-to-side than it is tall, be sure and select "landscape" in both "page setup..." on your document program and in File/Print.../Properties/Features?Basic Options.

When I did all this methodically, I was able to print my Christmas envelopes. Yay!

Manual feed won't grab paper

If the printer works good when it prints the envelopes/label one by one, I think it works normal (because the paper is not a standard paper).

How to load evelopes HL 2140

Brother Hl 2140 Printing on thick paper, labels and envelopes 2
When the back output tray is pulled down, the printer has a straight paper path from the manual feed slot through to the back of the printer. Use this paper feed and output method when you want to print on thick paper, labels or envelopes.

Open the back cover

Open the manual feed slot cover.

Using both hands, slide the manual feed slot paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.

Using both hands, put one piece of paper or one envelope in the manual feed slot until the front edge of the paper or envelope touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull in the paper, let go.

• Put the paper into the manual feed slot with the side to be printed face up.
• Make sure that the paper or envelope is straight and in the proper position on the manual feed slot. If it is not, the paper or the envelope may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam.
• Do not put more than one piece of paper in the manual feed slot at any one time, as it may cause a jam.
• If you put any Media (paper, envelope and so on) in the manual feed slot before the printer is in the Ready state, the media may be ejected without being printed on.

Printer prints addresses on paper, not envelopes, even though I click all commands correctly.

make sure you feed in the envelopes correctly and adjust the guides to fit the size of envelope you have in the manual feed or paper tray verses the size of envelope you choose in the print settings from the application you are using (MS-Word) e.t.c, also make sure that envelopes have the correct paper type and design for printing i.e( without metalic clips, not too thick to pass through the fuser)
size 10 is usually easy to go through for example.

Paper size mismatch for A9 envelope (5.75x8.75)

Set the envelope size in the printer properties paper size list to A5 (5.83 x 8.27) which is only .08 inches wider than the short side of an A9 envelope (5.75 inches). The paper size sensor on the HP6520 printer must not be sensitive enough to tell the difference. I can print A9 envelopes just fine using the A5 setting.

Address envelopes correctly

I'm running Vista and I thought there MUST be a way to print envelopes! So, this is how I figured out how to print envelopes perfectly! No doubt, this would be how the manual would instruct, but it's apparent that none of us are able to locate our printed copies, right? Guilty as charged!

Slide paper tray out; remove paper you have loaded in your tray. Set envelope in tray (face down, with top of envelope flush left) and adjust both side bars (designated as "1" in paper tray diagram - visible when all paper is removed from paper tray) so that they are flush against envelope. Slide back bar (designated as "2" in paper tray diagram - visible when all paper is removed from paper tray) so that it is flush with edge of envelope. Click print.

Believe defaults are set to #10 envelope. Envelope options - check / click on the following: face up, clockwise rotation and "Feed from" Auto Select. Click on / highlight the 5th envelope depicted in the top row of envelope examples.
