Drum kits marking up and streaking the paper

I have replaced the drum kit in my Dell 3000n printer three times this year. It keeps getting marks on the fuser and giving me black streaks on the right side of the paper. It is far too costly to keep replacing the drum kits. I have just replaced my drum and I am getting a lighter streak (just with black ink) on the right side. When printing color, I get "globs" of black on the bottom right. Any recommendations?

I had the same problem with a 3100cn printer. Dell had a large batch of defective drum kits. They replaced 3 before we found a good one. I recommend you exchange the defective drum kits.

You can check with Dell to see if there is a maintenance kit for this printer. I know that there is one for the HP counterpart. You will probably need to replace the fuser, and maybe the pickups and rollers, but as I said I am not sure if Dell has a maintenance kit for these machines.

How do I clean the rollers on dell 1720?

First of all dirty rollers are not the cause of your problem as long as the printer is picking up the paper.
Black marks or streaks on a DELL 1700 series printer are usually caused by the drum assembly which, in this model, is separate from the toner cartridge. There is no repair, you need to replace the drum assembly and perform the drum reset procedure. In very rare cases a buildup of residual toner on the fuser can cause marks as well, but I have never seen this on a DELL printer.
To replace the drum:
1. After removing the paper tray, open the front of the printer.
2. Remove the toner cartridge by pushing down on the black release tab and pulling the toner up and out of the printer.
3. Pull the drum assembly straight out of the printer using the blue plastic handle.
4. Carefully unpack the new assembly and install in the printer. Be careful not to touch the photo-sensitive roller underneath.
5. Reinstall the toner cartridge, close the printer and insert the paper tray.
6. Perform the drum reset procedure exactly as follows:

power off and open front door hold down the continue button as you power on printer leaving front door open when error light comes on release continue and close front door. toner low, load paper, ready, and continue will all be lit. press cancel slowly 4 times or until just toner low lights up. each time you press cancel, the light sequence should change when just toner low is lit, press and hold continue button until lights cycle up and down in sequence. release continue.. toner low will be lit again turn printer off, wait 10 secs or so and then back on press continue button to print off settings page and check under cartridge information, photoconductor value is 0K (zero)

My dell 1720 printer prints streaks on the right side of every sheet. i replaced the toner. No change.

Remove the toner and the paper tray and open every door on the printer. Take a can of air and blow out every nook and cranny in the printer. Check and carefully wipe all rollers. There a fuser kit in the printer, likely in the back. If you feel comfortable with it, remove the fuser kit and use a can of air to continue cleaning. Reassemble the printer and run a few test pages, it may look like a bigger mess for the first few pages (up to 25). However, as you run the pages the print should clear up. If you still have a streaks on the pages, you will likely need to order an maintenance kit from dell. This kit should include the fuse, rollers and other replacement parts for the printer.

I hope this has helped you

When making copies one edge of the paper has three dark spots. Look as if they could possibly be roller marks? Something need cleaned? Thanks

hello

probably right, remove your toner drum and clean it with tissue paper or smooth cloth, this dots happen when your roller drum has some spot on it due to ink powder and also slide the tiny button on the fuser kit to clean it.

thanks

Page looks "dirty" print is not clear

this is normally one of three things in my experience with these printers.

- either the printers drum unit has come to the end of its life and needs replacing

- the toner unit is coming to the end of its life or is a very cheap replacement cartridge not a brother original

- the fuser unit has become fouled up and is marking the page.

both of the first two parts the drum and toner are replaceable, i would recommend getting the original brother parts as they tend to work a lot better than most refilled cartridges i have seen for sale.

this should solve the problem, as its basically excess toner sticking to the drum due to age greying up the papers color.

if neither of these solve the problem you can get kits to clean the fuser unit, but i have never used one of these, as our company keeps a small stock of replacement parts for these printers in case we need them.

Horizontal streaks on pages

Streaks at 2.82 inch intervals: Horizontal marks at this interval are the result of a mark on the fusing roller of the printer. In some cases, these marks can be cleared up by running a cleaning page through the unit. Laser Printer Cleaning sheets can be purchased at your local printer/office supply store. If the marks persist, this can indicate a more serious problem with the fusing roller that would require service attention.

Streaks at 3.74 inch intervals: Horizontal marks at this interval are the result of a mark on the image drum of the printer. There is no way to repair a damaged photosensitive image drum, so in the case that it is scratched or otherwise damaged, the entire CRU (toner/drum cartridge) would require replacement to clear up these marks.

Black streaks on the fax

Yes it does, the rubber blade that cleans the drum is not doing its thing properly, hence leaving your mark, pull the drum unit out and expose drum by pulling back the cover underneath it, you should see your mark on the drum, don't touch drum with fingers or brush/clean it, it is photosensitive too so keep away from light for any period of time.
