Screen is frozen, no keystrokes do anything. cannot turn off laptop. can't take out battery. What do you do to shutdown and restart in this situation. With other laptops, used to taking out battery as last result to restart.

SOURCE: Starts round and round in circles

I have the solution for you, try this and let me know.

Im asuming its doing what is called, " The windows boot loop" or as we call it at work anyways.

Dells are known for this.

let me guess, it starts up normally, gets to the windows startup but asks you to pick between 4 different start up options like safe mode.

Do you have your original CD that came with it, or at least a windows XP CD?

You will need one.

What you do is,

1st: Bot from CD. Start the machine with the Winxp CD in the drive, hit F12 for boot options, or whatever key function it is. Do this as soon as you turn it on,

2: select " Boot from CD" and press any key when it askes if you want to boot from CD.

3: It will load like your doing a fresh install of windows. Thats alright, its normal and no it wont re-install windows at this point.

4: Once it loads, it will have some options. Pres " R" for repair.

It will go out and to the command prompt after about 5 seconds.

5: once at the command prompt, type in exactly ( CHKDSK C: /P ) Dont include the ( ) . Then press "Enter key "

6: after it runs the disk check, normally about 3 to 5 minutes, It will finishand go back to C:/

Just type ( EXIT ), Enter key, and let it reboot.

you can remove the disk now or later, shouldnt matter, It will go to the options screen like before, but just let it default to the normal startup, or hit enter.

Windows should now load fine and you shouldnt get that message at startup anymore.

WHY THIS HAPPENED?, you may be asking.

For some reason, certain Dell Hardware and software conflict, usually when you have installed some new program, or for just no reason.

Your Boot Up files get corrupt or cleared and windows needs those to start.

What you did was re-installed those windows files.

Now copy and paste into a word document and print it out in case it happens again. Not likley but it could.

This works with any computer experienceing this issue, usually, unless there is something worse going on.

You can help other now that you know how and become a hero, make sure to charge them $10 though for your time:)

Let me know if this doesnt work and we can try something else.

Good Luck.

How do i reboot my laptop

The easy answer is to:
For Windows, Click the Start Button, then Click Shutdown and then click the restart option, but this depends on what version of windows. If this doesn't work, please clarify with the version of Windows.
If your laptop is frozen, hold the power button down for several seconds until the laptop turns off. Then click the power button again to turn it back on.
As a last resort, you can remove the battery. Wait 5 or so seconds, re-insert the battery and click the power button to turn it back on.

When i turn on the mac it come up to the apple, then a cmd prompt is in the left side and I cannot seem to get past this, i cannot even shutdown, unless i hold the power button or remove the battery...any...

You have a firmware problem and it needs to be reset.
try this first: If the computer is on, turn it off. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
Wait 5 seconds.
Press the Power button to restart the iBook computer.

If that doesn't work, try this: Turn the laptop off. Remove the battery but leave the mains power attached. Hold the start button down until you hear a loud beeeeep! then release. Wait for the system to reboot and hopefully thats you sorted.

My lcd has frozen withth black lines

press on the Power button for about a minute to shutdown the computer completely. Now turn it on again and see if the same thing happens. If is continues, most probable reason is that there a hardware conflict. Did you install anything? What happened before the screen froze?

How do you reboot an acer aspire aoa110-1588

There are different ways on how to reboot a laptop. If your laptop is not operational like it's frozen or crashed with the mouse frozen, try the simple steps below:

1. The custom way to reboot your laptop is to press and hold the power of your laptop until it shuts off. Then press the power again if you want to turn it back on.

2. If your laptop is functional and you just want to reboot/restart it, click on Start then click on Turn Off and select Restart. It will restart your laptop.

3. If you can't click on the Start button but your mouse is still functional, you can simply press the Ctrl + Alt + Del button on your keyboard to bring up the Task Manager. Then on the Task Manager window, click on Shutdown tab, then choose Restart.

4. If your laptop wont turn off no matter what you do, like holding the power button and the steps above, try to remove the battery of your laptop for few minutes and put it back in. Try to turn on the computer again.

These steps are just the basic. If you can tell us more details about your laptop's problem, that is much appreciated. We will provide you exact solution to resolve it.

Have a great day!

Screen turned off and when i pressed shutdown it wont shutdown

Hold the shutdown button for 15 seconds (be sure to count slowly). If this still doesnt help and you ABSOUTELY need to solve this issue, then you can try to risk removing and reinstering the battery pack of your laptop.

I tsounds like your laptop overheated. it should return the normal once it is rebooted.

Hold down the power button for 5-7 seconds and it will shut the laptop off. If that doesnt work, remove the battery from the bottom of the laptop and disconnect the AC adapter.
