Wireless internet I have no phone service at my house in the hills no satellite no cable I would like to get wireless internet from my understanding I can get a wireless g pc card or adapter and can connect to the internet with out having a house phone. I do have a cell phone but I don't think I can use it to hook up. Can someone tell me how the card or adapter works

SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION (non dial-up connection)

First you need to decide what type of broadband and Internet service you require and these are -
1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line.
2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service.
3. A wireless 3G network uses the mobile/cell phone network and can be separate or combine with your cell phone account. This type of Internet connection uses an USB wireless device shaped like an USB memory stick.
Note - Combined services generally offer discount pricing and may include a modem/wireless router.

If you use a wireless router with the DSL or Cable Internet service then your laptop with a wireless card can then connect to the Internet. You can also connect to a free WiFi hot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc. using the wireless card in your laptop.
If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access the Internet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to check the service coverage area where you need Internet service.
Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to check with the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and the cost of the various plans.
Note the download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed the monthly download limits. Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/or installation CD.

Unlike notebook computers, most desktops don't come with wireless networking built in. I can't find any mention on Dell's site that the Vostro 200 has wireless capability, so this computer doesn't have a wireless switch. To use your desktop computer on a wireless network, you'll need to install a wireless adapter. USB adapters are very easy to use since you just have to plug them in. They're not expensive and you can easily find them at retail stores and online.

Usually the internet service provider (even satellite) provides a modem/router to access the internet. This being said to purchase a wireless router must mean that you are going to "broadcast" your satellite internet throughout the house so that others in the house can access the internet.

In that case, no it doesn't really matter what kind of wireless router to buy. Just make sure you connect your satellite modem/router (what they send you) into the wireless router correctly. Also, make sure you put a password on that wireless router so that your neighbors or unknown persons do not gain access to your internet/computer.

YES but you need a computer which will bypass your internet service from computer to router and then any wireless computer or any WAN enable device will access internet.

Share your wireless internet to Ethernet and connect with cable to router. WAN is now working.

But remember to configure your WLAN Router.

OK.. First of all, I am hoping you understand the basics of the MagicJack concept ?? Highspeed Internet connection on your PC, MagicJack plugged into your USB port, with a phone plugged into the other end of the MagicJack ? It requires High Speed, no dial up, and marginally works on my wireless Broadband due to atmospheric influences. It DOES work on my bluetooth wireless cell modem just based on the better speeds I get from the modem vs. my wireless Broadband.

I personally own wireless Broadband, so my ongoing experience is from here. I own a MagicJack for traveling and a Vonage line, for my house fax line service because the MagicJack is not strong enough, power wise, to push through my CAT/5 house, phone lines. Vonage does provide phone for the entire house, for the most part, cleanly, because Vonage uses a powered router to provide the final signal, which I then jumber over to a phone jack to connect into the house. It also requires that you disconnect your external phone lines, that would normally go back to the "Big Bad Phone Company". This can be done at the demarcation point, where your regular phone lines connect into a box, outside your house ? The internet I have, is in my shop, about 150' from the main house, Vonage's router power's the whole house, just fine.

2. With DSL, you will have good solid speeds, but you will still have the issue of, MagicJack, being too low in it's power source, because it comes from the USB port of your PC. You are basically going to be stuck with a single wireless or corded phone, for the MagicJack service. In this case, since the DSL is fed through the BBPC phone lines, you will not be able to 'pipe', even Vonage back through your house phone lines.

3. If you're on dialup, you're going to have poor service, out of the box.. you're just not going to be fast enough to be clean.

As an added note.. Your query for help is concerning.. again, high speed internet into your PC, MagicJack plugged into your PC's USB port, the phone plugs into the MagicJack's RJ-11 phone port.

Take whichever cable/wire that runs from your modem, that should be the first electronic device in the line from your incoming internet service, that would be the main line from whatever your source is be it phone line, cable, or satellite. Plug into the appropiate jack on the back of the computer.
Main incoming line/cable, ----->modem,-------> ethernet cable-------
---------->computer

The metal barn serves as a wireless interference. It reflects back the signal from your mom's house. What you can do to get a wireless signal if either buy a Wireless Access Point to extend the signal from your mom's house or just relocate the position of the satellite transmitter.

You could try one of a few things.

1, get a wireless card if it does not have one already,
2. get regular internet from an ISP
3. Reset the network connections and make sure all cables are connected properly,
4. Set up a home network and use a second computer that has a reliable internet connection
5. move the tower around to see if it can catch a wireless signal,
6 (and last that i can pull from my head) Is to get a wireless signal expander to lengthen the range of current wireless around your house.

Please understand as I get very basic to start but things very obvious to you I cannot see.

Generally when including a router in a home network starting from the cable (tv) or the phone socket (dsl) in the wall with a phone wire plugged in. The next box is generally provided by your internet service provider and is a modem/something that connects to the phone line or cable. Then sometimes when only one computer exists computers are directly connected to the modem with an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone wire with oversize connectors) or a USB cable (small flat retangular ends).

When you want to add a router for multiple computers. The computer gets disconnected. If a USB cable was used it is often replaced with an ethernet cable and that cable connects to the WAN port (probably separate from a block of 4 lan ports) of the router you bought (tell me if you have two routers -- that is a different problem). If your service comes from a cable (tv) company your router may already be properly configured. If however you have DSL service from the phone company the chances your router is correctly configured are less. To finish with the cabling story -- your computer then hooks to one of probably 4 LAN ports all in a block. Now if you are lucky power on all devices and boot up your computer and see if you have internet access. If you do great if not please provide me the name of your internet service provider or a link to their help/support website and I will see what I can do to assist in completing the router setup. Until your wired computer gets access to the internet your girls wireless connections will not work either. Once we get the wired connection working we will address the wireless connections.
If necessary unplug the router and plug the computer back into the original cable until we get the router working.
