I also have a thick black line, but vertically down the centre of a scanned or copied page. This is not due to marking on the glass.

    Any ideas most welcome

Same problem. I went through HP help and replaced the ADF cartridge and reset it, but still printing a black line. Only does it when sending faxes or making copies. Does not do it when printing from computer or receiving faxes.

Had the same problem. Fixed it, temporarily, when I opened the scanner and cleaned out the gunk that had melted in the recesses on the scanner bar - thing that goes back and forth. It worked for awhile, but came back about 100 scan pages later. HP claims that they do not have a replacement part.

Is this happening when you print or when you scan? If when scaning you could have something on the scanner bed... If this is happening when you print, it could be the cartride is defective.

My intellifax 4100 has a wide solid black bar approx 1 1/2 wide down the entire right hand side of the page of faxes that I send. (faxes that are received by others). The machine works perfectly in every...

Here is a list of possibilities.

1. The scanner glass is very dirty on one side. (the area the paper paasses over.)

2. The laser scanner lens is dirty on one side

3. Look in the bottom of the machine and locate any mirrors and clean with a dry soft cloth.
You will need to remove the drum and toner to do this.

While trying to copy a letter on a kodak 5100 easyshare the page prints out with a yellow strip about 2 inches wide down the entire right side length of the page . Why is it doing this?

Try this one, Turn on the printer, Take out the inks, remove the printhead, put back the printhead make sure it will snap and you hear a click, put the inks back, wait for the printer to initialize, Press the Menu button, look for Calibrate printer, then print calibration page, then scan it after. Load a regular paper. Then try to print a demo page by pressing Photo and Copy at the same for 5 seconds then let it go. If same problem persist call this no for further assistance 1800 421 6699

Printer prints a black streak down the reverse side

You have a build up of ink inside the printer. I had a Canon that did this. I had to take the ink & print head out, and tear a paper towel strip 1 " wide and 13" long or however long the paper towel is. I folded it in half down the length so it was 1/2x13. Then used a plastic strip to shove it under the part the print head sits in. Once I got the towel to the other side, I grabbed it with my hand. I removed the plastic strip used to shove the paper towel under. So now the paper towel sticks out both sides underneath the print head cradle. I gently pull the paper towel back and forth so the paper towel can clean off the ink build up. Hope this helps.

I have a xerox dc12 with error message please turn machine off and on again 9-363 have tried several times but no good! what else can I do?

That's a process problem with that machine.
May require a service call .ON and OFF is pretty much all a customer can do and wait for it to setup.
NOTE: The problem occurs because of the trickle development system in the machine, making extended lengths of black and white copies / prints does not allow the black developer housing to purge itself of excess waste Toner (Dry Ink) and Developer. There are two solutions for the problem:
  • Make 1,000 copies / prints of a black and white job, then make 150 copies / prints of full color. Continue making 1,000 copies / prints of the black and white job, then 150 full color, and so on, until the entire black and white job is complete.
  • Make extended jobs in groups of 100 by making 100 copies / prints of the black and white job, then allowing the machine to cycle down (return to 'Ready') and making the next 100 copies / prints. Continue in this pattern until the entire black and white job is complete.
