You will need to format all the partitions on the disk to make free space. This will erase all of your data, so you will be able to use your disk at full capacity.

You can format your partitions via Windows Explorer, just right-click a partition and choose Format....

Be aware that if you format a system partition you will have to reinstall operating system.

Hi, I have a maxtor personal storage 3100 on which I have data that has been stored from my Dell Dimension computer that has XP. I want to transfer the information to my new DELL Studio computer with...

this message comes mostly due to the nonavailability of the drivers. so i would request you to first install the drivers of your maxtor personal storage 3100 to your DELL studio computer, then connect your maxtor storage to your DELL computer. this should fix your fix your issue.

Problem open up my maxtor one touch 500gb to retieve photos

first, recover your files. You will need to use hard drive deleted photo recovery program like Asoftech Photo Recovery, you can follow this video to recover deleted photo

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive and reinstall your system.

Transfering data from Maxtor to a new computer

It's a USB Hard drive, so you should plug the USB port into one computer, put your information on it, then plug the USB port into the other computer. Browse the Hard Drive for your data. It's like a larger flash drive.

Old Maxtor/New Maxtor

If files you are trying to restore are encrypted you will have to use same software to retrieve them.. If not, any file in the external hard drive should be viewable with your windows explorer.

And U do not need drivers for external hard drives. They just plug into your usb port and work with modern OS after the unit is recognized.

Maxtor one touch iii mini

You have a possible corrupted file. Open My Computer and right-click the drive icon. Click PROPERTIES in the menu. Click TOOLS. Click CHECK NOW. Click a check into the AUTOMATICALLY FIX FILE SYSTEM ERRORS box. Click START. The OS may tell you a reboot is required.
If all else fails, dump the data to some other storage device and use DISK MANAGER to delete the partion, make a new partition and format.
