Ignitors are not working

Just solved this on the Kenmore model 911.33389 (same unit). Ignitors started with no one touching the cooktop. It has had a history of doing this and, this time, sparks were visible under the knob. Disassembled cooktop (don't forget to unplug and shut off the gas!). Performed "smell test" for burned electronics. Found smell in #3 ignitor switch. Disassembled and found worn, burned, and fried. Parts list was inside unit but had a typo for the "ignitor switch". Showed WB18T10240. Ordered that only to discover it was the transformer to ignitor wire harness set (no photo on website!). Wrong part... ugh! Dug deeper for the correct part #. It was WB18T10239 but it has been replaced with WB18T10344. Noted on some website that someone installed one and then the ignitor was NOT synchronized. Turns out, you can install WB18T10344 about three different ways. Mine was 22 degrees off vertical (different than original) and now my unit works perfectly! Also, install the new switch harness (if that's what you do) starting from the left front valve then clockwise. The original unit installed from the right front valve, then clockwise. I think it's more likely to be a wiring problem, either bad ground or loose connection on the controls of the spark module connector. Look carefully at the switches on the controls to see if they are asking for spark when they're supposed to be off.

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

1) Clean your ignitors & Burner with a dry cloth and see if it works.
2) You need to have proper Ground in your electirc connection. If there is no/ Poor ground than the unit will keep igniting even after the flame is developed.
if none of the above helps than check all the ignitor cable there may be a cut / leak in the cable causing spark / ignition in the middle of the cable where there is a cut.

no to your comment.if all the wires look ok & the module is sparking change the wire from one that is working to the faulty one if still not working it will be the spark electrode in the burner.

We just had that problem - the igniter is electric - if none of the burners are "clicking" it could be a power problem. unplug the stove and check whether the outlet is working. In our case, the outlet the stove is plugged into has a "GFI outlet with a reset button. So we reset the outlet and that fixed the problem.

Make sure yo haven't spilled liquid on the ignitor becuase this will cuase all ignitors to spark constantly. If all is dry, the spark module must be replaced.

Ignitors simply go bad from time to time.

If you have a meter you can check to see if you have voltage going to the ignitor. If you do, and it isnt trying to ignite, replace the ignitor.
If you have no meter, ignitors are usually less than 30 bucks so you will not be to much in the hole by just replacing it.

If you lift the cover to access the ignitor, it should be held in by two crews, the gas tube, and a wire to the flame sensor.

Make sure you turn off all gas and electric before disassembling.

You can find ignitors at your local appliance parts supply house.
All you need is the model and serial numbers.

Turn the knob back towards off about 1/8 of a turn and you will take it off lite and it should fix it.

when you turn any burner control to lite all ignitors should click this is normal industry wide. the ignitors are controlled by switches that are placed over the valve shafts they are wired up together so thats why they all click when you only operate one valve don't worry about it. the ignitor stays on untill you back the valve off a tad this is also normal.
