I had the same problem....ok here's what you do, make sure the ZEN is off first then switch it on my pushing the switch down (like usual).So switch it on and press the play/pause button at the same time. It may take a couple of tries but after you get it, the screen will say "Recovery Mode" at the top. Now go down to "Clean Up" and click it. It will then ask, "Disk cleanup will be performed. Continue?" Click yes. When it's done, turn off the ZEN and turn it back on. Does it work!? Ha I'm a 13 year old genius.

The battery in the unit needs replacing.

The following worked for me. Go to the Creative Zen Support warranty info page of their site:

I ran the recovery tool with my zen connected to the computer and it changed from being in a docked state to updating firmware, after it had done this it worked fine again.

There are instructions on youtube on how to open it, use a strong guitar pick rather than a screwdriver. When you do remove the wires from the battery by taking the sticky tape from the battery and solder to the battery rather than taking the wires from the circuit board easier that way.

This is what you call the WSOD or the White Screen Of Doom. Is it still under warranty? If yes, go and have it returned or RMAd. Or you can try to download the Recovery Tool found here

Search in google for any firmwares available. If not take it to near by service center and get fixed. Thank You.

if you are operating a linux -based system you can still download the driver, but it depends on your skill level to install and make the driver work. as Creative products are meant only for windows based operating system and depending on the date of manufactoring. the mp3 may only recognizable in either the xp, vista or win7. your options are very limited and to enjoy this product you many have to consider to obtain or use a windows based pc to use the player

I've had the Zen working fine on various versions of Ubuntu - it's worth upgrading though.

I heard the KZenExplorer isn't really supported that much, I tend to use Gnomad2, it seems the option of choice.

Try and reset the player by inserting a pointed object inside the small hole, press and hold for 5-10 seconds to let the player reset. If this doesn't work then connect the player with the computer and let it charge. Please check this link for details---
