got a new player 1 wk ago. Went to sleep last night...all good. Woke up this morning, screen blank, all controls frozen, cant turn it off or on! Whats going on? If I reset it, do I lose all my music?
The zen man need a full charge... if you have an ac adapter plug it in for at least eight hours. if you don't have an ac adapter plug it in via USB to a DESKTOP computer (not laptop) and try to use a differnt usb cord (creative doesn't always include a powerful enough cord to get the zen out of that low power state)
You don't loose all your music if you reset it.
refer to creative.com/support and look up info on your model to see if anyone else has your issue.
if it is totally busted your player is still under warranty

my creative zen keeps freezing as soon as it gets to the first song. i tried using the recovery tool, but it didn't work. i did download all of my music from my itunes. idk. real frustrated.
Hi -
I know this response is way late to help you, but I was having the same problem. I could turn the zen on fine, but as soon as I tried to play music it would freeze and I couldn't turn it off. Using the reset button didn't help any since it would still freeze if I tried to play anything.
But I found reformatting the entire zen totally fixed it.
-directions-
Connect your zen to your computer, go to windows explorer, click computer on the side bar, and your zen should be under "portable devices". Click on it. You should now be viewing the "storage media". Right click and select "Format...". This completely resets the zen, clearing any preferences or media you put on it and the freezing problem.
It was annoying putting all the pictures, videos, and itunes back onto my zen, but at least it works now. Since I've reformatted it, I have had no problems.
Hopefully this helps others who experience this problem.

Creative Zen 16gb is frozen in docked screen. I was deleting files from it using the Zen Organizer when it froze up. I disconnected it and now there is no response., screen still displayed as docked. I tried resetting with a small pin and no response. Any suggestions. Thanks.
Hello,
The following worked for me. Go to the Creative Zen Support warranty info page of their site:
http://www.creative.com/products/mp3/MP3PlayerRecoveryTool/welcome.asp?
I ran the recovery tool with my zen connected to the computer and it changed from being in a docked state to updating firmware, after it had done this it worked fine again.

1. Fully charge the unit
2. Get a song to play
3. Lock the device
4. Wait for black screen and leave it like that for 20 seconds
5. Hold the play/pause button down and move the side switch out of lock mode, then push all the way down (like you're turning it off) and release (back to middle position)
6. Release the play/pause button

The screen is on, but black, and the ltitle blue light behind the on switch is lighted, but I can't seem to turn the player off or get it started. My computer also does not recognize it. This is a VERY new problem, no previous problems. How do I fix this? Will it run out of battery because it can't charge?
I had the same problem today too. I just stuc a needle in the little 'Reset' hole at the bottom and it was all good.

My creative labs zen recently froze. After following the instructions on the Creative Labs website, i reset the unit. Now, half the time it does not even power on ( just a gray screen for 5 seconds, then nothing ) or else it goes into "rebuilding" and simply freezes while trying to rebuild. My computer no longer recognizes the device when it is plugged in, so i cannot manually wipe it clean. Suggestions ?
My Zen locked when I turned it on. It wouldn't play the track the screen was on so I pressed the reset button and turned it on again. It was then still locked on the same track so I tried turning it off which then froze as it was shutting down. After another reset it went through the rebuild screen then locked again. I then used the above fix (pin in reset, then hold play and power switch down). Taking me into the kind of bios screen I formatted the contents. Then added my library again. It's now working fine.
This is the second Zen I've had because the first one had the same problem so I took it back without trying to fix it. Both times the problem occured when I had my Zen plugged into my car stereo auxiliary jack whilst switching the ignition on in my car. I can't understand why this would cause the problem but I'll avoid doing that in future.

Okay, so a little while ago I decided to charge my Creative Zen and plugged it into my computer. I left for a few minutes. When I came back I noticed that the computer didn't recognize the device yet, so I looked at it and it said "rebuilding". I waited for twenty minutes and it was still at the same progess as before. I even poked a pin into the reset hole in the device and it turned off. But when I turned it back on it went right back to the "rebuilding" screen and was at the same, frozen progess as before. So now I have my Zen unplugged from the computer and letting it just sit on the table, and it's STILL not doing anything, it won't even turn off if I try to. Help?
Hold the reset button with a paper clip AND the play button at the same time while flipping the power switch. The ZEN should go into recovery mode. You probably want to do format all but you can try the different options. You also may need to download/update the firmware here.

My GeneralPlus MSDC MP3 player shows to have music on the sd card but the player won't play
MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track. Click on this link for instruction on converting music files to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files
