Ihad that problem with my Vizio 32" and was told by the repairman that my motherboard was fried & it would cost me 200 bucks to get it fixed . Needless to say for another $69 I bought a new one with an extended warranty. I apologize if I gave you bad news.

Well, first you might want to try another hdmi connection behind your TV.If it appears to have the same message,you need to check your TV setup and be sure the HDMI video is active.
Secondly,go with the recommendation of the set top box.You will use component video cable to connect from your set top box component video output(Y PR PB) to your TV (Y PR PB) and see if that actually work.If so,just use the cable box for the time being and call your cable company for another cable box to replace this one!

Well its clear you have a nasty short somewhere, problem is with no schematics for this set how will you find the problem much less get the correct part?Might be better to shop for a different board to replace this board with.

maybe u have the av cords around the wrong way or if it's a rear projection screen u have to replace the bulb if its a plasma or lcd tv u will have 2 get a new 1

picture you describe is 4X3 format and unless remote has a format and the program is in another aspect mode you will not be able to change it.Look for the aspect button which can also be on a box if used.
