Hi there. I'm getting a

I am assuming this is your first digital television. Unlike the old analog television digital televisions
must have the channels scanned into the set. This what you have to do.
> Connect the signal source to the back. Antenna/Cable/Satellite.
(You may have already done the above step.)
> Go into the menu for the signal input source and set it to what was set on the back of the set.
> Click on scan or channel or whatever it's called and wait for it to search for available channels.
> Save the channels found.
You may exit menu and watch television.

The owner's manual gives this and more information.

Hi, I sent an earlier e-mail. Not sure it got

I would be surprised if the cat stepping on the remote control had anything to do with your problem unless the cat somehow managed to turn on "CC when mute" with the right combination of buttons (more on this below).

This procedure for setting closed caption is from the owner's manual. (p. xx is the Adobe Reader page # for the PDF version of the manual.) CC is not available for the YPbPr, VGA or DVI inputs:
  1. With the set on, press the Menu button. (p. 20)
  2. Use Ch +/- to select the Setup item. Press <Enter> to go into Setup. (p. 20)
  3. Use Ch +/- to select CC On/Off. The current status of CC should be displayed at the bottom of the CC setup window. If it is off, press <Enter> to turn it on. (p. 36, p. 20)
  4. Use Ch +/- to go to the CC Mode. The current mode should be displayed at the bottom of the CC setup window. Use Vol +/- to step through the modes. When you have the one you want, press <Enter> to confirm the selection. (p. 36, p. 20)
  5. When you have the settings you want, press Menu again to escape the sub-menu.
Note: the "CC when mute" turns on CC only when Mute is on. Check this CC menu item to see if it is on. It may override the CC On/Off if it was chosen after CC was turned on.

One last VERY IMPORTANT ITEM: The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Best Buy announced a recall on the IS-LCDTV26 models sold by Best Buy. Apparently there is a risk the power supply can overheat to the point of being a fire and burn hazard. The announcement, dated April 2, 2009, says to return the set to Best Buy to get a gift card for the value of a replacement TV. I don't know if the recall affects sets sold by other retailers. If this set is under recall, it is illegal to resell it. It is possible that you have a different version of the power supply and that's why you haven't had any problems so far, but you should check this out.

Before we start taking things apart, lets try your simple remove power plug routine and power system back up. Also, please try your unit on a few different channels to see if your problem continues on each channel. Your Main Board, Power Board, T-Control Board are suspected problems at this time. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, the unit should power down by itself after you have powered it on. If it does not, then do not be concerned. Let me know if the problem continues. The firstlink below will bring you directly to the troubleshooting guide if you need to continue forward with the same error. Lets focus on the external portion of the TV set first (95 percent of all TV problems are related to things EXTERNAL To the tv itself) Check the physical CONNECTION of all cables by removing each wire bare or RCA and reinstalling it (Each power cable as well), once you have removed one cable, check it for fraying, and if it is already bare, splice a new fresh connection for it. 5. Check to make sure there are NO OTHER uneeded radios, system nearby. these systems, when powered on, will cause electromagnetic interference and prevent more than just severe tv interference SURGE PROTECTOR Surge protectors account for more than 75 percent of electric faults to stereo equipment. Lets start with your AC Wall outlet. It is standard in america that 220 Volts from out of these outlets. This implies that each device will be using 220 Volts (From within that grid zone). If anything including an alarm clock is plugged into any AC outlet socket in the vicinity of the stereo equipment/TV, it will cause electric outage, and prevent electronics from even turning on! Your TV needs dedicated electric power. If your TV is located in the living room then unplug everything else in the living room. Lets plug the TV set into a Dedicated socket. Check all light switches to ensure that power is on for that outlet. Check the TV cable for Fraying both on the ac wall end and where it plugs into the TV. Check all GFCI outlets to ensure that all red reset buttons are pushed in, check the circuit breakers for proper connection and they are turned on. Now, lets try the TV set without it connected to any cable services, vcr, dvd, stereo system, etc. Please respond if we have found a solution.

When troubleshooting these units, there are always several variables to consider. First check to see what last occurred with the unit such as did the children play video games, did the electricity go out due to bad weather. You may see that there are many possibilities but let's focus on what occurred last to the unit. Once we determine what happened last, we may isolate the actual cause of the problem. The actual cause may be associated with projection issues, older versions (Picture tube), interference from devices located nearby, and even a radio turned on and located really close to your unit. This is normally known as electromagnetic interference to electronics and is very common with the error you have provided today. Please continue to look for anything EXTERNAL to the unit before looking at the internal components. I have been working on these a long time so feel free to follow up with me.

Insignia tv shock power on/off

I have experienced the same issues, I called Insignia about this particular problem, I explained that this TV shocked me and now won't work, there explanation is that because I was out of warranty there is not much they can do, never mind that they had a particular model that a recall with the same issues as there 26 inch model, when the TV shocks u, it's usually your main board gone bad,
All I can do now is complain on these boards and inform other consumers of how bad of a product this is and to stay away from this brand due to the fact have poor designs on these models.
I will continue to ***** and complain, on Facebook and other post until maybe someone listens and decides not to buy a piece of **bleep** like this, what a joke, will start a class action law suit, remember the more u complain, they will eventually have to listen to you just like they did with their 26 inch models they will do it for other models so hold on to your sets this one's due for a recall.
They also said that they can't find any threads on their insignia boards, just type shocked and u will find threads, and if u want to do a Google search type insignia and your model number and see how many threads u will find about their faulty boards, I'll be back to add these post with links of how much of a piece of **bleep** this TV really is..

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps
