Compaq R3000 new battery but does not work
Make sure you have the right AC Adapter hooked up to charge the battery with.
If you do then its a problem with the motherboard. If your using an offbrand ac adapter then that could be the culprit.
When i turn on my computer can not read memory or
the problem is your memory module and if you hear these long beep sound it indicates that a memory replacement in necessary, if these kind of thing happened it only means that you have a broken memory module
Dvd rw drive not reading any dvds
hi, if its not reading anything at all then the first thing to try is by buying a lense cleaning dvd you can buy these from most electrical retailers or computer repair shop dont buy the cheaper ones as they tend not to work so be warned.
If after doing this it still dont solve the problem then the chances are the dvd drive will need replacing.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok.
Many thanks for using fixya
Wont charge
It could be that your battery is defective/worn out. If the computer just shuts off immediately (doesnt try to hibernate/standby) then you're likely looking at replacing the battery. They can suddenly do things like this if a cell shorts out in the battery or due to common wear. But first, here are a couple of things you can try.
1. Try reseating the battery (pull it out and put it back in). Sometimes something that simple can fix the problem.
2. Try to calibrate the battery. Your computer may come with instructions on how to do this, but if not you can do it manually. Turn the computer on but go into BIOS (press F10 at the compaq logo screen). Don't load your operating system
Unplug your computer. If it turns off at this point, your battery is already toasted. Replace it.
If the computer keeps running, let it go until it finally shuts off due to battery drain. Then plug it back in and let it recharge completely. This will let the microchip in the battery learn its charge potential and may allow you to get more life out of it.
Note: Calibrating these batteries is good practice but it shouldn't be done very often. If your calibration doesn't work after 1 or 2 tries, you probably still are looking at a dead battery.
Won't start
That sounds like a cpu, ram or motherboard issue. The cpu could be bad or unseated, the ram could be bad or unseated and it could be anything on the board.
Gnerally the common thing that will cause it not to boot and not show any error or video etc will be ram. That is where I would start. You can try removing any modules or just trying one at a time or in a differant slot. Ram is cheap(ish) right now so it would be worth fixing if that is the cause. You can replace the cpu or swap it out. Replacing the motherboard requires it be stripped down and you may find a new motherboard for $150-$200 and then the labour on top. Better check for any warrenty if possible. And if you need to pay out of pocket consider getting a replacement laptop. New ones have dropped down enough that the repair cost could be as high as replacement.
When I power on screen shows Compaq boot screen
Regarding with problem basically some part their failed. You need to check the RAM and HDD. Reset the CMOS battery remove the CMOS jamper with in 5 seconds and put it back. If you loss the first try you also recovery, to recover load the windows CD and boot up repair the windows until it is done. Good luck!

Factory settings
None ... it is not that simple. You can remove the BIOS battery for 15+ seconds that will reset the BIOS to factory. To get the computer back to factory, you need a restore disk from the manufacturer. Look at the site to get this information.
