Our Aprilaire humidifier has started to make a

The water solenoid valve in your Aprilaire humidifier makes an audible sound anytime it opens and closes. This is normal operation. On occasion a mineral deposit may become lodged in the valve. When this occurs the valve may make a buzzing sound as the plunger is not seating properly. You may dislodge the deposit by lightly tapping the valve.

Water runs without furnace running

If this is a new problem, on an existing humidifier, then it is most likely a bad solonoid valve. This is the valve that the water line is connected to, and it controls the flow of water to your humidifier.

If this is a problem on a newly installed humidifier, it is possible to have wired the humidifier directly to the transformer power, and therefore holding the valve open all the time.

Hope this helps

How difficult is it to change from manual to

Based on the information that I have found changing the humidifier from a manual setting to an automatic setting is somewhat easy. It will require you to remove the little blue resistor that is located at the humidistat on the two screws labeled odt and replace that with an outdoor temperature sensor part 8052 that needs to be ran to the outside of the home. Depending on your technical abilities you may be able to perform this procedure, but may need to get a contactor involved.

Fan motor seems to be running backwards. Installed

The fan on the model 700 does rotate backwards compared to your typical fan operation. This fan will pull air from the duct verses pushing air into the duct. There are several things that may cause your humidifier to leak. The most known reason for leaking is the water panel/filter is not being changed frequently enough which should be at least once every heating season. You also want to confirm that you are utilizing an authentic Aprilaire water panel.
  • Is the Feed Tube tightened or is there a crack in the tube?
· Is the base of the scale control insert sitting firmly in the drain spud at the base of the housing?
· Does the bottom of the scale control insert have a taper to it to direct water to the drain spud?
· Is the Scale control insert positioned correctly? The scale control insert has a front and a back. The back of the water distribution tray has an indentation in it to allow for clearance of the nozzle, which is attached to the top of the base. If reversed, and forced into place, the water distribution tray will break off the nozzle attached to the water feed tube and potentially the housing, causing water to leak
· Is there a gap between the top of the water panel and the water distribution tray for air to go through?
· Is the colored dot on the water panel, up?
· Are there signs of entrainment? Mineral build-up on fan blade, shroud, inside of cover?

Water leaks out from the bottom of the case ...

YOUR HUMI IS IN NEED OF MAINTAINACE. THE CALCIUM DEPOSITS ARE CLOGGING THE THE SPONGE ROLLER THAT WOULD NORMALLY ABSORB THAT WATER, YOU ALSO HAVE THE HUMDITY SETTING RATHER HIGH THATS WHY THERES SO MUCH WATER. THE TUBE THAT IS LEAKING IS MADE TO DRAIN OFF EXCESS WATER FROM THE ROLLER AND THE REASON IT LEAKS IS BECAUSE IT ALSO NEEDS SERVICE JUST PULL IT OFF AND CUT THE SEWELLED PART OFF WITH RAZOR OR CUTTING KNIFE IF IT IS PLASTIC TUBING AND REPLACE IT. IT SHOULD BE DRAINING INTO THE DRAIN ON THE FLOOR WHERE THE FURNACE CONDENSATE TUBE IS.

Dry house with furnace mounted humdifier

Is the furnace fan set on auto or on. You will get better humidity if you keep the fan on. It won't add much to your electric bill because many of the newer furnaces operate the fan on DC voltage. Try it!

Water and motor always run on Aprilaire 760, even

Hope this solves your problem, look for the humidistat, it should be located on cold air return duct near furnace, make sure it is not set in the on position, if it is, then this is why it is staying on, please set humidistat any where from 20 to 35%, never over 40%. If the humidistat is set properly and is still running, you may have a electrical problem, humidifier circuit should only receive power(24 volts) when the indoor blower motor of furnace receives power, also if you have galvanized plumbing in your home, you may have a piece of rust or lime deposit in the humidifier solenoid valve preventing it from closing, turn water off to humidifier and disconnect water supply line entering solenoid valve inspect & clean protector screen. Good luck.

Connecting an Aprilaire 700M to my HVAC system. I

If you don't have a volt meter, purchase one. I've seen them as low as $20.00 at Sears and even lower at Home Depot and other discount stores. The HUM terminals are most likely low voltage (24v). The "N" is the neutral. Assuming you have confirmed this is low voltage (24v, you will use HUM and "N" terminals. This control sequence is typically to allow for operation of your humidifier only when there is a call for your fan to run. The brown wires coming from your Humidifier are your low voltage circuit. One should be directly wired to "N". The other should be ran to your humidistat. The other side of the switch of your humidistat should be wired to the HUM terminal.
I hope you will find this helpful. Good Luck!!!!
