Take the starter button off and put a 12 volt tester on one of the 4 leads that are wired into the button. Test each- If you find a hot line, take a small piece of wire and jump the current over to the other parrallel button. I worked on my bike for two weeks before I discovered this problem. Another problem was that the headlight would not come on. The starter would not crank at all. I took a screw driver and raised the brass leads on the switch so they would make contact and put the switch back together, and it worked. Good luck.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, try starting with the clutch lever pulled in and / or the sidestand folded up. Additionally, determine if there is a clicking sound. If there is, then it would most likely be the starter solenoid.
Good luck and thank yu for asking FixYa.

You have some crushed wiring along the frame. Check the wiring from the switch along the frame under the seat for a rub or a pinch in the insulation. It has a short causing the lights to flash.
SOURCE: 750 katana click when starter hit battery is good
if you follow the positive cable from the battery it will lead you to the starter solenoid. it's jast a little square that also holds the main fuse. you can check if it's bad just by bridging the to posts together with a set of needle nose pliers. if pushing the start button just makes it click when you bridge it it should activate the starter. if the starter works when you bridge it, you know the solenoid is bad. if your stater still clicks when you bridge it, make sure your battery is at full charge. if your battery is at full charge and it still clicks, your starter is bad.
