SOURCE: Suzuki Savage 650 LS 4 gears found not 5.

Your bike has a fifth gear. The problem is probably a bent shift fork. Broken engagement dogs could be present but I have never seen that happen in anything other than 1st and second gear. This is approximately an $800 to $1000.00 repair. Personally, I really like only having to shift 4 gears. Don't you?

Below is a partial image of your trannie and also a generic image showing how a slider gear moves left and right when pushed by a shift fork. In this example the gear dogs engage into either 1st gear or 2nd gear depending on which way the fork moves the slider gear. If the fork were bent, the slider may go into second gear but not have enough movement to reach first gear. If the gear dogs were broken off then the gear has no way to engage.

SOURCE: 1996 Suzuki Savage 650 backfires on cutoff

I had the same prob with my 97, It was not the head gasket but the O-ring on top of the head. Replaced the O-ring and has been running good for a year now with no backfire. Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 Suzuki LS650 that won't start. Battery says it's charged . Has new spark plug. Gas is good. When I go to start it it does not start, and then the battery is low again.

You say the gas is good? do you mean fresh in the tank? Try draining the card floatbowl using the 10 mm headed bolt on the very bottom of carb. If you smell a foul odor there is varnish buildup in the carb which will require a complete fuel system/ carb cleaning to fix.

I have a 2001 sv 650 it sat for a year i cleaned the carbs out and it till will not start it has a brand new battery

If it sat with the valves or a valve stuck in an open position then the valves will need to be freed up before it will start and run.You can remove the valve cover to see if they are working correctly.

New Battery, Have lights, Does not turn over

bang the side of the starter with a hammer (dead blow) and hold the start button. sounds like the starter solenoid is frozen. if not check the relay, and the switch, you can check the switch by doing a continuity test on it. good luck ill check back...

Specifications , Air/fuel mix for my LS400 88' savage

Is the compression release operating properly? Is it stuck open a bit? Is the head gasket blown? Normal compression is 125psi to 150psi. This sounds like a stuck compression release, blown head gasket or burned valves. A mechanic will need to pull the cylinder head and do a valve job on it if the compression release or gasket is not the problem.
