Ok code PO446 is your vehicles EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM the most common cause is the gas cap gor left offf and someone drove the car or the cap was not fully locked it will set the code
the other causes are leaking evaporative emission plumbing from the fuel tank to the engine compartment, someone changed the fuel pump and did not seal it properly,
Failure of a emission component in the evap system
The only way to diagnost these is an OBDII scan tool and a smoke machine the light will come on when the computer does its test of the system and there is a hole as small as .020"
1/20,000 of an inch !
The light can only be turned off by a OBDII scan tool

P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit
My 2006 Rav4 had the check engine light, 4WD light and VSC light come all on at once prior to my state inspection. It was placed on the state computer and the codes P043E, P043F, P2402, P2401 and P2419 all came up tell it was something to do with the R and R charcoal canister and filter, and fuel tank protector. I researched it and spoke with my dealership service manager, which he did not like the fact I researched but also was not very helpful in explaining until I really pushed the issue. From my research, this is a common problem with the Canisters and from speaking to another Toyota Tech. My car has 87, 000 on it so they won't even consider the Federal Warrantee on emissions...check your owner's manual, It goes to 80,000. You can buy the parts yourself at www.MetroToyotapartsnow.com for much less if you have a reputable mechanic to put them in.

P0440 code (Evap Malfunction) on 2001 Toyota 4Runner. Dealer told me I needed to have the charcoal canister replaced at a cost of $766 .... is this accurate, resaonable, guaranteed to solve the problem and make the engine light go off? I have felt the dealer has been less than honest in the past so I'm leery. Thanks ...
I have a 1998 4runner and my check engine light turned on, I bought the OBD2 tool to figure out what the reason was for it turning on, same code appeared P0446 (evaporative emission control system vent control circuit malfunction) I am not sure how to resolve this problem as it states it is a circuit malfunction, I will give the other suggestions of buying a new fuel cap, and replacing the fuel filter ect. I was wondering if you proceeded with replacing the charcoal canister and if that was what the solution was it needed. I want to try and fix this myself and save on the cost. What was the outcome? Any suggestions?
