Not a regular fuse for headlights. Usually a relay that trips if it overheats and resets when it cools off. Often under the hood. Probably means you have a short circuit somewhere. A hot wire touching ground , often at rear of vehicle, Are your tailights still on ? If headlights and taillights go off together then problem is definately a short.

Where at under the hood would the relay switch be located? Thank you very much for the help

  • swanwine Nov 23, 2010

usually not far from battery Also usually in a black plastic casing. The fact that your headlights come back on probably means the relay is fine and you have a short. The relay is usually a metal case about 3/8 wide and 1 1/2 inches long. A guess as I am not familiar with your vehicle but that is about standard.

1997 chevy s 10 driver side dim head lights bulbs new and grounds good

Pull and replace the fuses for the headlights. Its likely a dirty contact. To be sure use a volt meter and measure the voltage at the headlight. Should be close to the battery voltage. If its low and its not the fuse start tracing back the wire from the headlight until you find the bad connection.

I am rewiring a fuse panel in my 1987 chevy s10 and there are wires that will not wire into fuse panel

When a car company builds cars they will use the same wiring harness for several different trim packages and options. So there is a very good chance the wires go to options your truck doesn`t have and you don`t need them but don`t cut them out. Leave them there and make sure everything works and then just tie them up out of the way. You never know, may be options you will want to add.

Cant seem to locate Drivers and passengers side Headlight assembly for 1997 Chevy S-10, 3door, 6 cyl.

even at a salvage yard? go to RCSR.com (Rancho Cordova Specialized Recyclers) and get their 800 number, tell them that a 928 Porsche guy from Tahoe sent you to them and I will bet they can ship the part to you in three days for a good price...if you mean locate in the engine compartment try removing the headlight first...

1997 chevy s10 blazerdash wont light up when key

the dash sound's like a fuse, check the fuse box under the hood and in the door jamb on the side of the dash, also check your fuel filter and fuel pump, im betting on the pump because i have a 2001 chevy blazer that has had two replaced and it has 233000km on it!

your power starts at the brake light fuse, check with a test light, then proceed to stop light switch on brake pedal under dash, one wire will be hot when when you check it with your test light, the other won't be until you press down the brake pedal then the power flows through to the second wire,if no power to second wire replace switch,if you have power remove tail light bulbs and check for power in side socket.

!997 Chevrolet S10 headlight problem

ya know it kinda sounds like the headlight switch that switches from high beam to low beam has a bad contact. You don't have one of those 4-beam modules that turn on all 4 lights on high beam do you? that thing screwed my whole headlight system up, I ended up throwing it in the trash.

I have the chiltons and haynes manual, I'm sure between the two we'll find a good diagram. I gotta get my youngin to open house at school, but I'll pull the books out and send you the wiring diagram.
