The left turn cancel return spring has broken. It is part of the turn signal switch. In order to replace you will need to get a steering wheel puller kit, a couple of picks and a snap ring pliers. This will allow you to remove the steering wheel, airbag clock spring, the steering wheel lock plate. and the horn ring. After those are removed you will have access to the turn signal switch. You will see the two springs in the switch. One will definetely no look the the other. The springs can be purchased individually from you local GM dealer. Might as well replace both as long as everything is taken apart.

SOURCE: turn signals will not automatically cancel

This is common for the turn signal/multifunction switch to do this. They have little plastis tabs that are hit when the steering is turned to cancel the signal. If those tabs have worn down or broken, the switch continues to work but will not cancel. Replace the switch if this is a major annoyance to you. Let me know if you need instructions or diagrams.

SOURCE: 2005 Freestar turn signals

I have always had that problem and opted to not fix it. It is annoying, but not a major issue. The turn signals work just fine it just depends upon how hard I take my turn...so I slow down a bit more now and honeslty havent had it happen in a while :)

Why when I put my right blinker on and make a turn the signal light does not click off automatically like it should?

I would check the turn signal switch....or the detent under the steering wheel that makes contact with the signal switch to cancel the light. Good Luck

Early cancelling of trafficator

What seems to be the problem with your turning signal cancellation, is the steering wheel is not in line with your wheels.
Meaning, when driving straight, take note on on where the steering wheel is positioned. If the spokes or logo on the steering wheel are turned or not level, then that's the reason for your turn signal is doing what it does.
The best way to cure this problem is take your vehicle to a wheel alignment shop that you trust, and tell the technition to position the steering wheel straight with the wheels.

Hi, as I was turning right with my signal on and then an immdiate left with the signal on when I heard a cracking noise come from my steering column, then the right signal would not turn off automatically....

There is a fitting around the steering column with the indicator switch and cancelling mechanism on it. It sounds like this has come loose or cracked. You will need to strip down the shroud around the column to investigate.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

My blinker stays on when i meke a left turn

The problem with the blinker staying on is most likely the cancel spring. In the steering column you have two cancel springs, one for the right turn signal and one for the left turn signal. your left turn cancel spring is probably broken. to replace this spring requires removing the steering wheel and components. on some models you have to replace the whole turn signal module cause it's all one piece. Check with your local dealer or parts store to see which one you have. Hope this helps you out.
