No solution I know of other than getting a new car! I first replaced the CVT in my 2009 Altima around 90K miles and have started having the same problems at 144K. We have a new highway here in TX with a speed limit of 85 mph but I can only do 80 mph on hot days or the CVT goes into safe mode. Safe mode restricts speed in excess of 70 mph and if I don't pull off the road to let it cool down I am forced to after 15 minutes but the CVT disengages completely. After 15 minutes it cools down and I can get back on the road so long as I don't exceed 75 mph. Do I think there's a design flaw? Absolutely. After several trips to the dealership all I get so far is they have examined the transmission fluid and do not yet have any signs there's a problem. Last time I had to time it so a mechanic was ready to jump in and drive the car before it had a chance to cool down.
Same problem 2009 altima with 23000 miles replacing transmission I dont have a clue
The cvt transmissions have become a known issue, and nissan (in canada, not sure about usa) has since offered an extended warranty to 200000 KM ( 120000 M ).
Testimonial: "Thanx for the advice. I shall make inquiries re an extended warranty "
how did you make out? were you covered?
The statistics do not support what Ottawa Tech is saying. Not all CVTs have become "known issues". Their performance has varied greatly depending on make and model. Some have been problematic, but overall the transmission is of at least average reliability (as per consumer reports long term survey). There is a false perception of CVT being unreliable. You aren't any more likely to have a problem vs. traditional automatics, but if there is a problem, you will definitely be paying much more for repair/replacement.
My 2010 Rogue has a very high pitched whine as I decelerate less than 60 km and a grind/whine
Every time I coast. Will replacing the CVT get rid of the whine?
