My 2000 Grand Am SE has Airconditioning that worked fine until it got real hot our... The compressor runs, but does not cycle on and off. Pressure does not seem to change when testing. I checked all the fuses and found a 30 amp fuse under the hood MISING for the AC! I have not replaced it, as it WAS working and has now quit. Pressure appears to be acceptable at 25 psi.

Depending on the ambient temperature 25 psi lowside pressure may not be adequate to operate efficiently. At roughly 70 F lowside pressure should be 24-31 psi high side pressure should be 150-250psi.Would verify that the freon level is adequate prior to to checking anything else and also that a leak did not develop, If charge is ok would continue looking into an electrical issue. One quick test you can perform as well would be to disconnect the lowside pressure switch and jump the two terminals and see if the compressor comes on like this.If it does a good possibility it would be that the freon level is low. If it does not continue with further electrical diagnosis.

That is the problem. The compressor runs! It engages but there is almost no cooling. It WAS working fine last week. Now, it just quit, but the compressor engages and sounds like it is running. i am very confused.

Did the system get recharged? Would do this prior to anything else. If doing this yourself would purchase the type of 134A that contains UV dye.The compressor will still cycle even if the freon level is low but has enough to operate system just will not cool well.

Generically speaking, if the compressor is really running and there is no pressure difference, the compressor is not pumping it has gone bad. BUT, since you say it is not cycling off and on, I believe the compressor is not running but you are seeing the pulley turning only. Also if the pressure is 25 psi, it is too low as in the amount of refrigerant is low. Check the pressure switch to see if it is open or closed electrically. Not sure what the 30 amp fuse powers since you say it worked before. Start here.

SOURCE: i changed the blower motor and resistor on my 2005

doesnt work on all speeds? ck the big purple wire at the blower motor, on high speed, it should have battery voltage, if it does, then check the black wire, it should have "0" volts (or ground it, see if it then works). If the purple wire does not have power then fuse #30 (30 amp) may be bad.If the black wire has more than "0" volts then the ground may be bad or the "blower motor control processor" =( resistor) is bad, or the ground for it is bad. the ground wire ends up at the cross beam behind radio. If you ground the black wire at the resistor, and it works, then you have a bad ground at the wire, behind the radio. Good Luck.

2000 pontiac grand prix ac problem

If the compressor is working, a mechanic would check the low and high gauge pressure.
The freon has to flow thru the system to work, and the cooling fan draws air thru the condenser to get rid of the heat from inside the car.
If the ac clutch is working but the gauges show equal pressure, the compressor may be faulty.

Airconditioning Problem - 1996 Cadillac Brougham

Can be a few things.First is the system charged? If so,try powering up compressor with a jumper to verify that it works and clutch engages. Then try using a jumper on the binary switch plug, if system runs replace binary switch.Remember the system has to have enough pressure to run correctly.Hope this helps.

Air conditioner compressor stop when the speed up more 1200 rpmin low spees work perfect.

Sounds like a low freon level.
When the compressor runs faster, it reduces the gas level on the low side and the low level sensor cuts off the compressor clutch.

Optionally you have a clogged dryer in the system and the compressor is pulling on it until it is shut off by the same sensor.

Add a can of freon and see if that clears it up. if not, you will need an airconditioning guy to trouble shoot the components to determine the exact cause (dryer??)

We have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am Se. The car started to idle rough for 1st 15 secs then was fine. It is now getting progressively worse. Idles rough and chugs until engine reaches approximately 176 degrees,...

If this car uses an electrically heated O2 sensor, the heater portion may be bad. If the car has a lot of miles, the O2 sensor may be getting bad also.
