Car runs hot. Its 2005 grand prix

One day it got hot and quit. had a friend replace the water pump. The car will crank and run but will get hot aft a bout 10 minutes of driving. Once it cools down you can crank and drive again. It does not seem to get hot until driving.

Start by flushing your coolant system, then refill with a quality coolant.
Run up to temperature and check again for level (when cool again)

Check that the radiator is getting really hot quite suddenly when running from cold, as this is the best way of checking thermostat operation.
When over a set temperature (check your manual) the fan should come on.
If it never does - troubleshoot the fan (temperature switch or sensor first, then fan on direct feed to see if it powers up ok)

find the bleed valve on coolant system and burp it. make sure you are using a good 50/50 mix of coolant.
maybe run a coolant system cleaner . maybe a clog?

Possible PCM (computer) , Crank engine, wiggle wires@PCM under dash behind glovebox.
Tap on PCM with screwdriver while running . If engine stutters or quits,Replace PCM.

yes, but it's designed to drive the air out as long as you open the cap and run it until it's hot, keeping the radiator full. Eventually the air will come out and heater hoses should get coolant.
