Does the ticking sound like it is coming from the dash? It may be your turn signal switch which located in your steering column. You can change it yourself with a TORX screwdriver. Good Luck.
Whens the last time you checked your oil? it may be a lifter tappping. additionally lifters will tap if your oil viscocity is higher than recommended. i use 5w30. sounds like a simple problem. any more inputs????
Please try to give more information about the ticking.
Can you pin point the source or location of the Tick?
Is it coming from inside of the Car or out? From the dash, Wheel, Etc
And is the tick a steady tick, Maybe a metalic noise?
Try to expand the on the subject the best that you can.
Then I'll get back to you on this matter.
@Ccr
You said you think the noise is up towards the dash!
Try this with both front windows down, where the sound won't radiate.
Brake pads on that model would rattle when worn badly!
drive at the speed that the noise occurs and apply gentle pressure on the brake. If the noise dissappears,,,it's the pads.
If it doesn't then travel,"once again" at the speed that the noise occurs and apply a little pressure on the gas pedal. If the noise dissappears or changes pitch,,, it is probably a cv joint in the axles.
Also you said the model had no speedometer cable. I believe
the cruise control may still be used on some models!
If so,,, it's on the firewall under the hood,,,on the drivers side!
@Ccr
If the brakes have recently been changed maybe the spring clip that holds the pad tight in their seat has jumpped out. It dampens the sounds from the pad. If it is missing there can be a metalic sound as the pad grabs and releases. Also metalic pads create noises when they are used as replacements for Oem parts.
And some pads have a plastic, "add on" backing that should be stuck onto the back of the pad before they are installed.
Good Luck!

It's more like the old noise that cars had when the speedometer cable was binding. The Grand Prix of course has no cable going down to the transmission. Seems to be more up toward the dash.
Thanks

Thanks for the input, It's probably not the brakes as they have been changed in the summer. Will try what you say.
Thanks
Frank
what side do you hear the noise? roll down window on passenger side. believe it or not you may have a nail in your tire. my wife kept asking me what the clicking noise was on my ponitiac. i couldnt hear it till i put down the window. it was a nail in the tire.
right or left side? you may have a nail in one of your wheels and the noise is more pronounced as you go faster.
