DTC P0340 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Circuit . has single sensor . This is circuit problem , testing the electrical circuit's for the sensor before replacing the sensor should be done . Do you know how to test sensor circuit's ?

you got a bit carried away with the code
code p 0016 refers to crank shaft position/cam shaft position sensor, bank 1 sensor A---correlation === causes --wiring---CKP sensor --CMP sensor ---mechanical fault
code p 0011 refers to cam shaft (CMP) intake /left /front bank 1 --timing over advanced / system performance==== causes ---valve timing---engine mechanical fault --- CMP actuator ---wiring
you didn't mention the fault so consider this
if the timing is out on the intake cam shaft , it will idle good but play up as the timing actuator moves it further advanced with rpm
if the actuator is not wire properly or the solenoid is faulty , then the inlet will lag with increased rpm and again cause you problems
It is doubtful if the position sensors for either the crank or cam shafts are a problem because it starts and idles good

My first guess would be a crank or cam sensor is disconnected.
Or damaged.
Have you checked the computer for trouble codes ?

Any 1996+ year vehicle will have both of those sensors. If there is a problem with one or any sensor at all it will turn your check engine, or service engine soon light on. to locate the precise problem it will need to be checked by an auto shop or someone who has a OBD2 scanner.

if those are the codes that advanced auto came up with it would be a good idea that they would be your problem

sounds like either you have 2 of the wires crossed.........one is loose....probably #1 or your #1 plug needs regapped or is not tight and losing seal....all will cause a misfire and set the check engine light

I think it's behind the motor inthe middle of the block. A crank sensor can set a cam code also.

This engine does not use a cam sensor

Blair, I would take a look at he TPS (throttle position sensor) located on the throttle body. In other words, it sounds as thought sensor when heated is changing its value to "open" or "shorted".
If the car starts OK when cold, use a hair dryer to heat the TPS when the engine is cold to see if you can duplicate the problem.
Also is the a service engine light on? Codes?
If you have a "digital volt/ohm meter" available you can read the variable resistance of the sensor when the problem occurrs to determine if the sensor is defective.
