Definitely have to remove the driveshaft on a rwd crown vic, or you have to leave the engine running and the car in neutral to keep the transmission lubricated
The temperature gauge sending unit is located in the front section of the intake manifold, just to the right of the alternator on the 4.6L engines. Got this from autozones repair manuals
I have one but I need it cause I have a 92 and 97 crown vic. but whatever you need, questions answered or need to be guided through anything just hit me up. [email protected]
Check the transmission linkage cable that runs from the steering column under the dash to the trans under the car. make sure that the cable is not damaged and that all connections are tight.

Is this where your fluid is leaking from?
My cousin is a ford mechanic...he told me that he sees that a lot on the vics of this age.....not because a seal is bad, but because of how the tranny is made....
i dont recall any sensors forthe od...usually if the over drive goes out people drive in the d mode which is harder on the transmission but no there are no sensors that im aware of that would make the OD not work correctly
