Codes bmw 2005 Z4.3.bmw p174

You probably mean a P0174 not a P174. P0174 is a lean code. Usually on these models it is a vacuum leak. Either intake gasket, vacuum hose, intake runner diaphragm etc. Slight chance it is a MAF sensor or low fuel pressure. If you have no symptoms of hesitation on acceleration or bogging then probably one of the former is the cause. At a repair shop they would check the freeze frame data and see what was going on when the code appeared. If the problem was happening at idle then they would spray flammable arousal! around and look at the short term trims and see if they go up. One could also narrow the problem with a smoke machine. Does it idle rough? Worse hot or cold? Hope this helps some.

99blazer s10 trouble codes p171/p174

P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
Possible solutions include:
  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

P0174 is identical to P0171, except it indicates the problem exists on Bank 2 as well.

P171 and p174 check engine light

Normally you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes and this does the trick. If the light comes back on, you may need to read the codes again. And, if it faults the MAF...you know it is not that and may be something else.
