Does the fan operate? If not you fan temp switch may be inoperative. The fan temp switch is mounted in the radiator monitoring the temperature of the coolant. When the temperature rises to a predetermined value the fan should start to assist in cooling down the engine. An easy way to trouble shoot the problem is to disconnect the temp switch wiring, install a jumper wire between the two terminals. If the fan runs then your temp switch is defective. If the fan does not run your fan is the problem.
Another possibility is that your fan bearing is bad causing the fan to run slower than it is suppose to.

On a 2004 GMC Envoy I can't pass emissions because of code P0526. I have changed thermostat, temperature sensor, made sure there are no leaks, what am I missing

P0526
In order to maintain proper powertrain cooling requirements, and to reduce the cooling fan noise as it is in use, the PCM uses a signal from the cooling fan to assess its speed. If the speed of the fan is higher or lower than the manufacturer’s specifications, the PCM will store the code P0526.

What causes the P0526 code?
In most cases, the P0526 code is caused by a faulty cooling fan motor. However, this code may also be stored due to:

Faulty cooling fan relay
Corroded or loose electrical components
Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor
Shorted or open electrical wiring, which may cause a blown fuse
Faulty cooling fan

Can I wire my cooling fan directly to my egnition switch

NO! Fans and other high amp devices should be run through a relay, however you could power the relay from the ignition switch. Not a great idea, however, as engine temperature is critical to proper engine performance. If engine runs too cool, fuel mileage will suffer, plugs will foul, emissions will suffer and check engine light will come on preventing you from passing vehicle checks. Why not just fix the system correctly?

I have 2000 Saturn ls2 v6 and have a pump on top of cooling fan is it needed or can I by pass it and how

I assume the pump is the auxiliary air injection pump, so the answer is no, if you tamper with that you will fail your emission testing.

I'm being told my EGR Valve could be the reason my car smells like gas really bad.

an EGR deals with partily burned gases and recirculates them back in to motor if it was bad you wouldn't pass emission testing ,P.S. get rid if the open gas can in the car ,for your safety

I took my 2001 pontaic ateck to emissions and didn't pass it fail.due to the cooling fan 2 control curcuit what do I have to buy for this problem?

My guess would be a fan relay or it could be a short in that circuit somewhere.Replace the fan relay with one that has the same part number in the fuse box to see if its the relay that is faulty.

1989 Toyota 22re fails California Emissions Test. Rebuilt the engine 20K or so miles ago. Has passed most tests with just a little bit of timing adjustments. At 15 MPH, (1670 RPM) HC measures 153...

HC is hydrocarbons or unburnt fuel.(raw fuel ).NO no such gas measurement.did you mean CO this is carbon monoxide or incomplete combustion.(all the fuel is not being burnt).if you mean NOX this is nitrates of oxide and is related to a heat problem.(motor running hot,bad catalytic converter).its probably getting too much fuel and not burning it all, possibly tune-up problem, carburetor(if it has one),bad fuel injection system(dirty injectors),computer(if it has one)may be getting a wrong signal.these are in reference of high HC and CO.for high NOX cooling system not keeping motor cool enough, cooling fan problem(weather clutch fan or electrically controlled cooling fan),poor cooling system circulation, bad catalytic converter.not a running lean problem as the other gases indicate rich problem.the converter may not be able to convert the emission gases to H2O and CO2 out the tailpipe.

2000 Lincoln LS overheatjng with ac on. My coolin fan is not speeding up when i turn on my ac it runs the same

HI, there are three devices that control fan operation and speed as well. i recommend inspecting these three components for there operational value. test thoroughly and check the wires as well. if you detect any faults within these three devices, replace immediately. I will list the parts to inspect and there respective definitions as well.

Problem spots to inspect--

1.Inspect the Cooling fan switch-- The cooling fan switch on electric fans monitors coolant temperature signals from the engine control computer. When the engine is cool, the switch opens to keep the fan from spinning. When engine is warm, the switch closes to turn fan on for cooling.

2. Inspect the Cooling Fan Control-- This module Reads the temperature of the coolant and passes the information to the engine control computer (ECC). The ECC receives analog information and signals the cooling fan switch to cycle the cooling fan on or off, as required.(controls actual speed as well)

3. Inspect the Temperature switch-- A bi-metal, heat activated, switching device that controls an electrical circuit based on engine metal/coolant temperature. It controls the cooling fan(s), temperature light or gauge, fuel mixture, emissions controls and electronic-control unit functions. It's usually made of brass or stainless steel and uses a tapered pipe thread (NPT) for dependable sealing. replace if faulty.

You will find the problem in one or all of the above discussed areas.

Please rate and god bless:)
