SOURCE: overheating

1. start the engine and leave the radiator cap open.
2. put a cardboard cover or a rug in the front of you radiator.
3. let it runs 20 minutes or more, see if it is overheated and see the water or coolant in the radiator circulated or not. If not, as soon as you have already changed water pump. thermostate and check the hoses, no leak, I think your radiator was blocked.

Did you put stop leak before?

hi jasso, I would recommend checking the water pump if you see no flow in the radiator. Make sure when you fill up the cooling system, that you fill it cold, and that the vent screw in the radiator is loose. fill system until fluid comes out the vent screw. tighten the screw, start the car and have someone run at 1500rpm and check for flow.also, make sure that you have your temp setting full hot and blower on middle speed so that you don't trap air in the heater core.

SOURCE: I have a 94 nissan altima that overheats. I

sounds like where the water pump meets the engine has warped or the gasket has been blown. Since the water pump has to come out anyway to fix it then i would suggest replacing the pump. It is 30 to 40 more.

SOURCE: 1991 honda accord is overheating. Installed new

When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

===

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

===

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

===

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

===

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

What are some reasons that my 07 nissan altima could be running hot

Faulty thermostat is the most likely one.
Failed Radiator Fan / Sensor (equally likely)
Low coolant level (in radiator as opposed to reservoir)

Faulty water pump. (less likely)

Clogged radiator. (less likely)

Very weak mixture. (even less likely)

While there are a variety of reasons your Nissan Altima is overheating, the most common 3 are a coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.), the radiator fan, or a failed thermostat.

There are many things that can cause overheating.

  1. Clogged radiator (internally or clogged fins externally)
  2. Bad water pump
  3. Air in cooling system
  4. Weak coolant
  5. Faulty cooling fan(s)/fan sensor(s)
  6. Bad pressure cap on radiator or reservoir (whichever it uses)

1996 nissan altima no cabin heat, new radiator, flushed and filled, top hose hot, lower hose cold, newer thermostat checked good

HI Anon.
Remove your radiator cap (WHEN ENGINE IS COLD), run the motor and let it warm up a minute or two, have someone rev the engine a little while looking into the radiator. If the water goes down and/or you see the water moving, your water pump is good. If not this means that your water pump is bad and is not moving enough water through the system. Try Removing your thermostat and run the engine without it. Keep checking the radiator hoses to see if they are the same temperature. If they are not the same temperature the water pump is bad. If they are the same temperature your thermostat is more than likely the culprit. Hope this helps.

yes,have suggestion.leaking coolant into the passeger side floorboard? film on the windsheild at anytime? suggest a bad heater core. or this,heater core stopped up.needs to be flushed.flush radiator with a common flush found at autozone,advance autoparts stores.or any other auto parts stores. remove your heater core hoses on the firewall[2 small hoses that go from the motor through the firewall to the heater core itself] flush the heater core there manually.push your water hose to the passenger side there and turn hose 'on' and watch the flow out the other side.[both hoses on the firewall will have to be off[or disconnected]to do this properly. your problems here,and since you've replaced the thermostats twice,suggest that this is your issue. thank you for choosing fixya.com

1994 Honda Civic LX\overheating within 2 mile drive

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

How many termostats does a 2003 nissan altima have and how easy to fix.

There is one thermostat for coolant and it is located at the end of top radiator hose inside the kneck that it connects to. To replace this the hose has to be removed and then the kneck,thermostat is brass colored valve that covers center of hole,clean old gasket from block side and kneck replace with new one and gasket with a bit of rtv sealant tighten kneck evenly when putting it back on,connect hose wait a short while for rtv to set up and should be good to go,"make sure engine is full of coolant b4 reassembling,just pour strait in engine if it isn't or you can damage new thermostat.overheating can also be sign of water pump not working as well so if still having problem then it is possible cause and on older models radiators get clogged.

Heater blowing cold air

My 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8s with 55,000 mi. blows cold air from the heater. Coolant not circulating in engine. Lower hose stays cool to touch. Both heater hoses cold. Changed thermostat - didn't fix it. Coolant not leaking or dirty. None in oil - no oil in radiator. Changed worn water pump belt - pump spins freely with no noise or resistance. Cooling fans come on after warm-up. Temperature gauge stays in normal range then jumps to hot and back again. Coolant good to 10 below - didn't freeze here yet. No other problems or repairs to car. Afraid to drive and make worse. Help!
